Marble Stain Removal

Marble stone is used in decorative art, architecture, furniture and home decor. Though available in many colors, white color is very popular and adored the most. Marble stone absorbs fluids easily due to its poriferous nature. It is popularly used for flooring, kitchen countertops and table tops in the house. There are many chances of marble getting stained at these places. You would be definitely wiping up the marble immediately, if anything spills over it. But what if you missed one? Don't worry, here are some marble stain removal methods to help you have that beautiful piece of marble back. Stain removal methods are different for different types of stains.

Marble Stain Removers

Lukewarm Water
Wet a soft sponge with lukewarm water and squeeze out the excess water. Keep the sponge barely damp. Clean the marble by rubbing the sponge gently over it. Now dry it with a soft cotton cloth. This marble stain removal method is effective in case of simple stains, like that of oil or water marks.

Poultice
Use a poultice if stain couldn't be removed by simple cleaning. Poultice is a material in the form of paper or powder which is used to resorb the stain. You can use white absorbent materials like facial tissue or a paper towel to prepare poultice. Damp this with the stain-removing chemical to form a soft paste and apply over the stain. This paste should completely cover the stain. Leave it over the stain for 1 hour - 48 hours, depending on how old the stain is. To keep the poultice damp, wrap a plastic over the stain and use a masking tape to hold it in place. After the required duration, remove the poultice with the help of water. Dry the marble surface with a cotton cloth. This is the best way of removing marble stains.

Hydrogen Peroxide
If your marble is light-colored, use hydrogen peroxide to saturate a paper towel, else use acetone. To remove ink stains on marble, place this paper towel on the stain and cover it with the help of plastic. Wait for about 24 to 48 hours, remove the plastic and rinse with water. If the stain is still apparent, repeat the steps. This is a good method of removing stains from marble.

Scouring Powder
If the stain is formed due to oil, first cover the stained area with corn starch for a day. This will help to absorb the excess oil. Now, wash off the area with hot water and regular dish detergent. If the stain is still there, you need to use a scouring powder for this marble stain removal. How? It's easy. Just scrub the stained area with a scouring powder containing bleach. Finish by cleaning that area with water.

Baking Soda
If vinegar spills on your marble countertop or flooring, follow this marble stain removal method. Firstly, blot the vinegar on the marble. Now, take baking soda and water, mix them to form a paste. Dampen the stained area of the marble surface with water and then apply the paste. Wrap this area with plastic, using a masking tape, to make sure that air can't pass through. About 24 hours later, remove the plastic. Let the paste dry completely for another 24 hours. Remove the paste with water and a soft towel.

You may require to repeat the above marble stain removal methods 2 - 3 times if you don't get the desired results. Now you can easily remove stains from marble formed due to watermarks, oil, coffee, vinegar or ink. It is always better to act fast and keep your elegant marble clean and shiny.
