Making Your Personal Development Goals

Are you setting yourself up to 'fail again'... Are you taking on too many changes? Are you changing because you think you are unacceptable as you are?
Here are a few observations I have made about women and change.
  • Most Women are trying to improve themselves in some way.
  • Many are overwhelmed by the information 'out there' so tend to over complicate the process
  • Or, she gets frustrated and stays stuck in the state of not feeling good about herself.
And that's a shame.

Many women embark on restrictive and complicated programs, often taking several big changes on at the same time and hoping for the best. It rarely works.

The good news is that if you are willing to slow down and adopt the right mindset, you can not only avoid 'failing again', but you can change anything you want.

Here are 4 keys that most women are missing which will give you comfort and help you develop the mindset necessary to lasting positive change.

Get your balance with a few changes at a time.

Quitting smoking, going on a restrictive diet and vowing to go to the gym 7 days a week is not a good idea. Your chance of success is limited.

A professional juggler doesn't walk on stage and start juggling 20 items at once.
She knows to begin with a couple of items, finding her rhythm, getting her balance, then she adds another item. She again finds her rhythm and balance before adding more.

Apply this concept to your personal development plans, find your rhythm and balance with your changes. Make it logical, allow yourself to settle into your changes before adding more.

Make sure the Mission Statement of your change is about improving the quality of your life not about forcing a change because you think you are unacceptable as you are.

There is a vast difference between the language of self-love and acceptance and the language of unacceptability and enforced change born of criticism.

Adopt a clear intention that any changes you strive for will come because you love yourself, and want the very best in your life. You want self-confidence, optimum health, great relationships etc.

Make sure the energy behind your change is positive and progressive rather than negative and restrictive.

Keep your head in the game by living your change. Keep your lifestyle at the front of your awareness especially in the beginning.

Most programs fail because for a variety of reasons, the woman lets her attention drift away.

If you really want to succeed at your chosen lifestyle change, it is imperative that you keep your attention on what you want. You get what you focus on.

I see so many women start out strong and then bit by bit, drift away and resume the 'old way' , adding another perceived failure to their personal resume. How sad.

Finally.... You are NEVER, NEVER a failure. There is NOTHING wrong with you. You are a work of art... in process. Growing and learning along the way.

No matter how many times you slip and fall, start again.

Change is a process. It is rare to succeed at a life change the first time out.

Celebrate your willingness to keep trying. Each time you will bring greater commitment and understanding to your program.

You can do, have or be anything you want. You can change anything you want. Just do it from a place of loving yourself and wanting the best quality of life.

Namaste.
