Making The Cake - For Your Best Friend’s Bridal Shower!

Your best friend’s getting married, and you want to give her the most perfect bridal shower of all time. Although there’s a ton of work involved, you want to do things up right. Your list includes invitations, including recipe or advice cards, decorations, game planning, house cleaning, and deciding on the food you’re going to have, including the cake. You’ll find that one of the coolest things about a bridal shower can be a home-baked, designed, and decorated cake made by you as a special token for your friend. She’ll be truly touched.

In planning the shower and the cake, you need to keep the preferences of the bridal couple in mind. Don’t go hog wild planning an elaborate, expensive bash when the couple would prefer a small, intimate get-together. On the same note, if you’re having a fancy gathering, a small, simple cake won’t cut it. Choose the type of cake you want to make based on what the couple would like. After all, you’re doing all this for them.

After you know the size and scope of the cake you’re planning, you need to decide on a theme for your cake. If you decide on the traditional, you’ll want to include things like flowers, hearts, bells, and the like. However, there are hundreds of more personalized choices available for you to choose from. For example, if both the bride and the groom love to play golf, decorate your cake with a golf theme. There’s even such a thing as making a round cake to look like a giant golf ball.

Now you know exactly what you want the cake to look like, it’s time to get down to basics. What kind of cake does the bride prefer? Is she a light eater who would rather have angel food cake? Or is she crazy about something chocolate? Maybe she’d like something very different. To find unique flavors for cakes, you can look for recipes in your favorite cookbook or online. Even if a recipe sounds good, however, make a sample cake ahead of time and taste it to be sure it’s really what you want.

Before making the cake or cakes, you need to decide on what size they should be. If you remembered to tell your guests to RSVP, you’ll have a rough idea of how many people will be there. The more people, the more cake you’ll need to feed them all. You can always send extra cake home with someone, but having too little is a definite disaster, so plan large. If you’re having a really big shower and need more than one cake, you can make each one a different flavor so that everyone will get something they will enjoy.

You’ll find that the cake will be an amazing centerpiece for your table, especially if you decorate it beautifully and include a special message for the bridal couple such as "A Shower of Love for Mary and Joe". If you have more than one cake, you can use the additional ones as decorations in other parts of the house up until time to cut them. Just be sure that if you’re having any small children you put the cakes up high enough where they can’t be touched by little, inquisitive fingers.

Don’t worry too much about the cake, though. It’s the thought behind it that counts. Even if it doesn’t quite turn out the way you envision it, it will be appreciated and taste great, and no one else will notice a deficiency. You’ll all have a great time at your perfect shower!
