Making Expensive Cigars Affordable

A couple of techniques that teach you how to save while shopping for cigars.
On average, a fine premier cigar will run between five and twenty five dollars. This can make it extremely difficult to become a true cigar aficionado for the average blue-collar worker. At most he or she could only afford one good stogie per every two or three weeks. Regardless, the status of being a true connoisseur of fine cigars should never be limited to the higher class. In short, no one should have to miss out on a good smoke.

Fortunately, no one really has to if they are very careful about the manner in which they acquire the high-class cigars. It is all a manner of technique in purchase and research. There are ways to get around the price issue, if you play it smart.

Buy in Bulk

Instead of buying one cigar every two or three weeks, begin by finding the ideal cigar for you. Then, save up for a few weeks, or even months if the need be. After you have a considerable amount of money put back, contact your local smoke shop. If there isn’t one in your area, try surrounding areas. Every big city has at least one excellent smoke shop. Once you have located it, talk to the owner, not the cashier. Tell the owner that you want several boxes or even a case of a particular brand and that if they will give you a price break, you will make this, and all future purchases, at their shop. Unless the owner is the tightest stingiest individual in the world, he or she will go for it. After you make your purchase, begin saving up again. You will generally find that you save up enough to make your next purchase before you finish off your current stash. This will keep you ahead of the game and give you the ability to try new smokes.

Save your Change

Of course, this sounds ridiculous at first. However, as it turns out, most people end up losing more than thirty dollars worth of change per month. Those who don’t lose it just toss it to the side somewhere where it ends up getting lost. You can afford three decent smokes in just change. Make a conscious effort to put the change away in a particular can or jar until the end of the week. You might be surprised how much you walk away with.

Shop Around

All too often we see that one beautiful stogie. You know the one, the perfectly wrapped, oily slick, dark chocolate Robusto. It is so beautiful that we just have to buy it on sight. This is a major no-no. Take note of the cigar, the brand and the format. Then, go home and do an Internet search and see what you come up with. Check all the discount online shops. You are almost guaranteed to find the one you are seeking at a far less price.

Detecting Cigars

This is an even more unusual technique than saving change, but it works. A gentleman living in the Midwestern United States paid sixty dollars for a metal detector. He spends about two hours per week at ballparks, community parks, and fairgrounds metal detecting. He takes all the change he finds to the bank and cashes it in. Then he takes anything else worthwhile, such as jewelry, to the pawnshop and hocks it. The money that he usually ends up with is enough to get him two boxes of good cigars per month. This is one creative individual, in that for a one-time investment of sixty dollars he gets free premier cigars for life. That’s using your head!
