Some are with aluminum bordering, some are color printed, some are magnetic erase boards and some are the normal white dry erase boards. Some other dry erase boards are made up of glass, but they are very heavy and require delicate handling. Some are made up of dry acrylic plastic and are durable and easy to handle. But what will interest you the most, is the idea of making the dry erase boards on your own. Making dry boards on your own is also an easy and exciting task to do. So, get prepared to learn how to make a dry erase board, the 'DIY' way!

White Dry Erase Board
White erase boards seem a very obvious choice when it comes to replacing the old ones, from your offices and classrooms. Buying them seems a bit expensive if you are buying it for your house or for children's room. What if you learn to make one on your own? All that you will need is to find a good fiberboard sheet, called 'melamine'. It is actually easily available at any home improvement store. This board is made up of a hard crystalline organic substance, with a plastic like coating on its one side. Though this material is a bit expensive, it is absolutely scratch free. You can even use a plexiglas or a lexan, but they both are a tad bit more expensive.

Tips on How to Make the White Erase Board
  • Decide whether you want to hang the board or want it movable from one place to the other. Then gather the basic materials accordingly.
  • At first you will need the melamine fiberboard sheet, that is usually available in the size of 4"x8".
  • If you want to hang the board then you will need some screws and a screw driver.
  • If you are planning to move it, then you will need a good, strong backer board, in order to support the thin fiberboard sheet.
  • You will also need glue to stick the fiberboard and the backer board together.
  • Hang the board on a plain wall. In case of a mobile erase board, place it on an easel.
  • Don't forget to spare some place at the base of the board to place your markers! You can fix a small timber strip there, with the help of your screw driver.

Fancy Dry Erase Board

Material
You will need an aluminum foil, a piece of cardboard (of your desired size), colors, scissors, a dry erase marker and some glue.

Procedure
  • Decide the size of the erase board. Then cut both the cardboard and the aluminum foil, in the desired size.
  • If the size of the cardboard is say 7"x8", then the aluminum foil should be of 6"x7".
  • Now make some exciting drawings on the border of the cardboard and paint them. You can paint the border in a single color if you wish to.
  • Let the paintings dry fully and then paste the aluminum foil, exactly at the center of the cardboard.
  • While pasting the foil, avoid the wrinkling it, as much as possible.
  • Use a rolling pin to straight the foil.
Now hang it on the wall or on an easel. Your fancy dry erase board is ready and waiting for you to scribble on it!
