How to Make a Diaper Cake

We all know that diaper cakes is not for eating, but, is made of disposable baby diapers and other materials needed for the baby. It is usually made in the form of a multi-layered cake. However, you can make a diaper cake as per your ideas and imagination. If you are interested in making one, then, the following instructions for making a diaper cake can be of some help.

• Start with collecting the required materials. You need at least fifty medium-sized diapers, rubber bands, satin ribbons (at least one inch wide), a cardboard platter (at least 16 to 20 inches wide), other baby necessities, like, bibs, rattles, pacifiers, teething rings, brushes, toys, baby clothing, wipes, bunnies, etc.
• Once you are done with collecting the materials needed for making a diaper cake, you can start with the process of making it. Take each diaper and roll it as per your choice. You may either keep the plain side or the printed one on the outside. Wrap the diapers with rubber bands.
• Now, take 7 to 8 diapers and secure all of them using a single rubber band. The diapers must be arranged in such a way that it forms a cylindrical shape and this forms the top layer of your diaper cake. You can also replace the diaper in the center to fit in some surprise gifts.
• Now, continue the process to make the middle and bottom layers of the diaper cake. In case of the middle layer, you have to use at least 15 diapers and it takes around 30 diapers for making the bottom layer.
• After making the bottom layer, you will get an idea about the size of the base, required for the diaper cake. Accordingly, cut the cardboard in a spherical shape. You may also purchase a decorative plastic tray or even a pizza pan for this purpose.
• Now, insert a wooden dowel through the cardboard base and arrange the diaper layers on the base, one over the other. Make sure to start with the bottom layer, which has to be followed by the middle and top ones.
• You may use adhesive tapes to secure the bottom layer to the base, but, excess use of these tapes can cause tearing of the diapers, as it is removed from the arrangement. You can use tapes to secure the top and middle layers too.
• The next step in making a diaper cake is to tie the satin ribbon around each layers and attaching the other gifts. Diaper cake decoration can be done in many different ways and your imagination is the limit in this case.
• As your diaper cake is ready, you can cover it with netting, which can be tied at the top, along with a bow or other decorating articles.
