Mai Tai Recipe
One of the most popular cocktails, the Mai Tai has undergone many variations from the time it was concocted in 1933. Here are some interesting Mai Tai recipes.
Mai Tai Recipe #1 (The original):
Ingredients
Rum (Preferably J. Wray & Nephew) over shaved ice (2 oz)
Juice of fresh lime
Orange Curacao (1/2 oz)
Trader Vic's Rock Candy Syrup (1/4 oz)
French Garnier Orgeat Syrup (1/2 oz)
Preparation
Pour the rum over shaved ice in a glass and add the juice of a lime. Mix all the ingredients in the glass and shake it vigorously. While serving, add a sprig of fresh mint.
Mai Tai Recipe #2:
Ingredients
Dark Rum (1 oz.)
Light Rum (1 oz)
Dash Orgeat
Dash Simple syrup
Orange Juice (2 oz)
Lime Juice (1/2 oz)
Orange Curacao (1 oz)
Preparation:
Combine all the ingredients in a tall glass and place some shaved ice at the bottom. Stir it well and use a cherry for garnish.
Mai Tai Recipe #3
Ingredients
Water (2 ounces)
Sugar syrup (1 ounce)
Dark rum (1 ounce)
Golden rum (1-1/2 ounce)
Triple Sec (1/2 ounce)
Falernum syrup (1/2 tablespoon)
Angostura bitters (2 dashes)
Pernod (1 dash)
Fresh lime juice (1-1/2 tablespoons)
Fresh grapefruit juice (1 ounce)
Preparation
Mix all the ingredients in a tall glass and shake the ingredients together with ice. Now strain this mixture in another glass that is filled with crushed ice. You can use some fresh fruit of your choice for the garnish. Serve in the chilled glass.
Mai Tai Recipe #4
Ingredients
Light rum (2 tablespoons)
Gold rum (2 tablespoons)
Orange curaçao (1 tablespoon)
Lime juice (1 tablespoon)
Dark rum (2 tablespoons)
Rock candy syrup (1 tablespoon)
Orgeat - almond-flavored syrup (1 tablespoon)
Preparation
First, take a cocktail shaker and pour some light rum in it. Then follow it with gold rum, orgeat, orange curacao and rock candy syrup. Also pour the lime juice. Then fill this with ice cubes and shake the glass vigorously. Once done, strain it into an ice filled glass. Slowly pour dark rum over this preparation.
Mai Tai Recipe #5
Ingredients
Lime juice (1 ounce)
Dark rum (1 ounce)
Triple sec (1 ounce)
Light rum (1 ounce)
Grenadine (1/2 ounce)
Orange juice (4 ounce)
Pineapple juice (4 ounce)
Preparation
Begin by mixing all the ingredients in a glass and shake it with ice. Strain the mixture in a tall chilled glass and top it with a cherry for garnish. You can also add a pineapple wedge.
