Compared to other cities in Spain, Madrid's architecture doesn’t compare as favorably. But this can be forgiven for the fact that Madrid vibrates with energy and with its cultural side and energetic nightlife it is really a wonderful place to visit.
The renowned Museo Del Prado on the museum mile shows works of many famous Spanish and European painters originating from the Renaissance period. The other big two museums to visit, there are the Museo Del Nacinal Centro de Arte Reine Sofia and the Museo Thyssen Bornemiza.
Once you have had your fill of all the museums you may want to visit the Plaza Del Toros, Madrid's famous bullring. This still hosts regular bullfights. Yet another legendary sporting place to visit is of course the Home of Real Madrid football club the Bernabeu Stadium. The weather in Madrid can be a bit extreme as it is the highest Capital city in Europe. It has throbbing hot summers and freezing cold winters.
Other places to visit in Madrid are as follows.
Goyas Tomb: It is in the Glorieta de San Antonio de la Florida and is a charming old chapel that Goya decorated with a fresco,Goya was also buried here.
Plaza Mayor: This is the most renowned square in Madrid, go there to sip a sangria, people watch and enjoy the improvised musical performances.
Flamenco@Coral de la Moreria: This is famous as it is the oldest Flamenco show restaurant in the world. The restaurant often has as visitors to the show movie stars, pop stars and members of the Royal family.
Royal Palace: Situated on the Plaza de Oriente, it was built in 1734. Nearly all of the rooms are open to the general public with just a small proportion of them put aside for state affairs.
Parque Del Buen Retiro: Madrid's most famous park made up of 350 acres and originally belonging to Phillip IV. It is teeming with different things to visit like the vast gardens lakes and fountains. The park is at its most busy at weekends when it really comes to life with many buskers and clowns taking over. The opening hours are 6:30 am to 10:30 pm.
So in conclusion, Madrid is a great place to visit for maybe a 2 or 3 night break and with flights on Budget carriers from the UK, there's not been a better time to go.
