MacKenzie Phillips Enters Rehab

On the heels of her arrest for alleged drug possession MacKenzie Phillips has reportedly entered a rehabilitation facility.

Phillips’ attorney Blair Berk confirmed that the actress has entered a treatment facility to battle her addictions to drugs. She was charged Wednesday with two counts of drug possession for possessing heroin and cocaine and a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle. This is reportedly her tenth trip to rehab. If she is convicted she faces almost three years and eight months in jail for the felony charges and six months for the misdemeanor.

Phillips, 48, was arrested Wednesday after drugs were allegedly found in her possession by TSA agents at Los Angeles International Airport. Police The "substances" were reportedly found in baggies and balloons and were thought to be cocaine and heroin. Phillips, the daughter of The Mamas and the Papas lead singer John Phillips and has battled drug addiction since she was a teenager. She was arrested in 1980 for cocaine possession while she was starring as Julie on the hit sitcom One Day at a Time. She was ultimately fired from the show because of her addiction. She has said of her childhood, "I grew up in a mansion, but everything was dirty and broken. Very little was going on inside except sex, drugs and rock and roll."

Phillips got her start at age 13 in the movie Go Ask Alice. She appeared in the movie American Graffiti and has had a spotty career. She appeared as a drug counselor on Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1994. She also starred in the Disney series So Weird in the late 90’s. Most recently she appeared on an episode of Cold Case. Phillips has been married three times and has a 21-year old son, Shane. She is due back in court on October 3.
