Mackenzie Phillips Claims Sexual Relationship with John Phillips
In her new memoir, High on Arrival, Mackenzie Phillips says that she had a ten-year sexual relationship with her father, Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips.
Mackenzie Phillips' demons and struggles with drugs have been well documented for years. As a child star on One Day at a Time, she was pretty obviously in trouble for many years when it came to managing her drugs and her fame. From a family that was notoriously unstable, Mackenzie Phillips is the daughter of John Phillips.
In her new book, High on Arrival, Phillips talks about a sexual relationship that lasted with her father for roughly ten years. She claims that she came out a drug-induced blackout on the night before her wedding to find herself having sex with her father. She was eighteen at the time. She said that the relationship continued and that it was eventually entirely consensual.
Of course, during this time, both were heavy drug users and one would have to assume that the majority of the sex occurred while one or both was extremely inebriated. Phillips said that the relationship ended after she became pregnant and was unsure who the father was.
She ended up having an abortion and decided at that point that her father would no longer be allowed to touch her. John Phillips died in 2001, so it will be difficult for the media to ever truly confirm or refute Mackenzie's claims. She appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday and answered Oprah's questions about the relationship and some of the other shocking details in the book.
