Lunar Kiss

A meeting with a wolf.
The night was cold and the air could slice you in half. Luna shivered. Why didn't I bring a sweater? She Chided herself fiercely. The wind seemed to whisper Luna's name as she made her way down the empty street. The only sound she heard was the howling of the wind and the "click clack click clack" of her high-heels.The moon was full and she heard a wolf howl in the distance. It wasn't unusual to hear an occasional howl pierce the night when you lived near a forest. This howl, however, made goose bumps appear on Luna's skin. Why didn't I accept the offer for a ride home? she thought then answered her own question. Because you only live 5 blocks away and you're a nice person. She thought numbly.

She sighed. Plus the night air was so welcoming today and the moon looks amazing. she thought dazedly. She looked up and spotted the sign "Sunshine Drive". Three blocks away! She paused at a stop sign as a black sports car yielded waited 3 seconds and sped of into the night leaving a cloud of black smoke and skid marks in the pavement. Luna coughed and yelled "Thanks a lot buddy!". Geez boys and their toys. She continued to walk and began to think of how she was going to spend the rest of her night. Her thought was cut short due to the howl of a wolf. Did it sound closer? She quickened her pace and the wind picked up and her natural blonde hair was whipped around her face. In under 3 minutes she made it to the last block and she turned down her street which was a dead end street and harbored no neighboring house's.

The street ended and she started to titter and totter over the gravel road in her heels. Gosh! She bend down and took off her heels. A howl in the near distance had her head snapping up and around. The sound of the steady running stream behind her house almost drowned out the sound of the wolf but she heard it and was almost jogging to her house. She jumped over the curb and onto her front yard over her gnome person and almost went head-first into her door. She unzipped her purse and located her keys. Upon entering her house another howl pierced the night. She shrugged it off and entered the house. Dropping her purse and keys on the table near the door she made her way down the hallway and took a left into her bedroom.

Sighing she plopped down on the bed and switched on the TV. Seeing nothing interesting on t.v she decided she would take a shower and just pig out and watch an old movie. 30 minutes later she was pigging out on the living room couch and watching an old 20th century werewolf movie. Outside the wind was really going wild and the howl of the wolf still drowned in and out. The trees look as if they are going to fly away. she mused. Something caught her eye in the window and she paused the movie. Uncurling like a lioness she glided over to the window.

I could have swore I saw something....movement in the under-bush had her all but pushing her face into the window. THERE! The wolf had midnight black fur that glinted off when the moon hit it. It's eyes they looked to be nearly as black as its coat. It was stalking back and forth and seemed restless. Feeling sort of empathetic towards the animal she stumbled away from the window and rushed into the freezer and pulled out some raw chicken wings. She tore open the pack and went towards the back door. What am I doing?! It could eat me.... but she wasn't thinking straight and walked out onto her back porch where the wolf still paced back and forth.

She threw a piece of chicken in the direction of the wolf and it spotted it and engulfed it in its huge jaws. Searching for more it suddenly spotted Luna and jumped onto the porch. It growled lowly but all Luna did was grin and throw another piece of chicken. Why do I feel so at ease outside in the full moon with a wild animal? She grabbed a chair and sat down and the wolf slowly came closer.

It whimpered and she threw another piece of chicken. It looked amazing so close up... The coat so black, shone almost like silver in the moon and its eyes were so black it looked as if there was no pupil. " Come here wolfie.. wolfie.. wolfie." She said quietly. It looked startled by her voice but slowly came forward. Surprised by her sudden courage and recklessness she stretched her hand out and pet the coat. The wolf purred and she giggled and gave it another piece of chicken. So fierce looking but it acts like a dog.

She thought as it whined for another piece of chicken. 10 minutes later she had no more chicken and the wolf seemed restless. "Sorry boy no more chicken." The wolf growled and then trotted off the porch flicked its tail, as if in goodbye and disappeared into the forest. She sighed and looked up into the star filled sky. What a night....
