Chapter 21 - Final

.....................
Celeste's POV
.....................

I opened my eyes quickly to find the room dark and cold, I slipped out from between the sheets, reheating the fire. I looked at the white gown I had been wearing and tutted, so it really was true, in heaven everyone wore white. I looked at the silken material. The gown was so puffed out, I sighed tearing strips of silk off into the fire. "There," I smiled at my handiwork, the dress was now short-sleeved, with a ripped hem. I giggled to myself, what would Mama say if she saw this? Mama. I stopped, mid-chuckle, why was I dead already? It wasn't fair. I walked towards the door, it creaked as it opened, a thin slit of light cutting through the darkness like a knife to butter.

I stepped outside barefooted, my hair tousled from sleep. I rubbed my eyes in the harsh light. The halls were quiet and empty, I shuddered as a horrible thought entered my mind, what if I were alone here too? I snatched my mind away, like a frightened child. I could sense some ones aura nearby.

I peered cautiously round the corner, a maid - sweeping the corridor. I padded out, out into the open. It was now or never.

"Excuse me?" My voice came out small and raspy, I swallowed, my hands clammy with fright, "Excuse me?" My voice more confident, she turned around, smiling.

"Ye-" She stopped and whimpered dropping the broom to the floor, her hands flew to her mouth, her face pale and sickly green, she let out a high-pitched scream and tripped over, pulling herself, further away from me.

"Are you ok?" I asked as I sensed more auras dashing closer, I stretched my hand towards her.

"G-g-get away from me!" She shrieked.

They were coming footsteps. Chasing me, hunting me down. I froze with fear, my eyes wide.

"Please." I begged, sobbing, "I'm afraid, so very afraid." My voice came out small, "Please." I whispered, my tears luring my vision.

"Help!" She screeched, footsteps grew louder. I wanted to help, I wanted help, so alone, so afraid. I ran, I kept running. Daemien, I'm afraid, so very afraid.

"I saw her!" The maid shrieked, eyes wide, her brows furrowed with madness. "She was there. Miss Celeste's ghost!" I dropped my gun to the floor. Celeste.

I skidded down the hallway, tears clouding my vision, my hair tumbling from the fancy hairdo someone had done for me. I stopped, panting for a breath, listening for voices. Nothing. Why had I run? I had nowhere to go, might as well have stayed with the maid and gotten arrested. I peered at myself in the window pane. The girl in the window had blonde hair, had blue eyes, had small ears, had a mouth, a row of pearly teeth, dressed in white with white wings. Why was the maid so afraid? I looked pretty normal - well, except for the wings.

I sighed loudly and turned the corner of the corridor. I was so tired, and hungry. I opened a door, not caring if anyone else was there and flopped onto the unmade black bed. Pulling the cinnamon smelling covers around me, I drifted into a dreamless slumber.

I sighed, collapsing into my cushioned desk chair, pulling out a bottle of depression pills. I swallowed them dry, ignoring the pain from lack of water and food. I swallowed a sleeping pill or two and lay on my bed, too exhausted to care, I tugged the duvet round myself and fell asleep.

I opened my eyes, suddenly alert. How long had I slept for? I turned to my side and snuggled further into the bed, meeting a solid object. My eyes wide open I stared at someone's back. I gasped, we both must have been pretty exhausted. The body turned to face me and I gave a loud gasp, causing his green eyes to flicker open. Daemien?

We stared at each other in shock. "...Is... is this... a dream?" I whispered, loud enough for only us to hear. He stared at me still in shock.

"You are Celeste, right?"

I beamed at him, "Yup! But how come you're in my dreams?"

He gave me a quizzical look, "Wait, I thought you were in my dream."
We both stopped. This was too good to be true, I reached out my hand tentatively, what if he was just an illusion? I was terrified, I squeezed my eyes tight until I felt something warm on my hand. I opened my eyes, tears tumbling down my cheek. I was... alive?

Daemien's POV
.....................

I crushed her to my chest, as we both began sobbing quietly, she was alive! I thanked the Gods, kissing her hair softly.

"I love you." I whispered into her ear, and no sides of the moon could stop me from doing so.
