Chapter 20 - Stolen Ashes
......................
Daemien's POV
......................
That morning, I felt sick. My chest was horribly tight and I could barely breathe. Something was wrong. I staggered down the hallway. What could it be? My parents were in a meeting, my sister was with her boyfriend in the garden, Sorrel was talking to Willow in her room, Skye seemed ok with Rosa and the Luxican Royals seemed ok too. But then why did I feel so tense and agitated.
I sat down to breakfast. My stomach in knots, the butterflies of doubts spinning through my stomach and my head. I felt nauseous just looking at the food. Something was wrong. But what was it? I shoveled the warm food into my mouth, ignoring the tightening of my muscles.
I pushed my plate forward, my chair back and slid out of the dining hall. I let my wings stretch a little as I flew down the vast corridors until I stopped outside her room. I pulled the key from my pocket and fumbled it into the keyhole. It wouldn't turn. It must be jammed, unless - the door was unlocked.
Suddenly my eyes were alert. The coldness of the room hit me hard making my eyes smart. I stared, the coffin lid was in its usual place, underneath the coffin. The coffin was open as usual. I stretched my hand out to stroke her cold face, I needn't have worried. I stopped. I froze.
The body. "No," I gasped to myself, "No way, Celeste!" I half-sobbed, half-screamed.
The body - it was gone.
Celeste was gone.
........................................................................................
"She's gone!" I yelled bursting into the meeting for the funeral plans, "Celeste isn't there!" Murmurs and ripples ran through the meeting members. The King stood up and began ordering everyone around. Where was she? Who had taken her? I clenched my fists, when I catch that guy I'll kill him with bare hands.
..................
Sorrel's POV
..................
I rushed to the room to check for myself. He was right, the coffin was empty. How was it possible? One thief, evil enough to steal the body of a dead girl. I ran into the security room, "Check her room, run through the footage from midnight last night." This was one amazing thief.
We all gathered around the screen, watching, transfixed as Daemien left her room. We fast forward quickly checking footage from elsewhere also. At four o'clock the cameras in Celeste's room died, then at four fifteen, the ones in the corridor outside. We could actually see where the thief was by the cameras breaking down after the thief had passed.
"Check the grounds, check every room!" I heard Skye yell behind me. I could hear King Matthew and Queen Catherine sobbing behind me, I clenched my fist, bringing it down on the side table with a bang, splitting it in half. "Dammit"
..................
Celeste's POV
..................
I skipped around the massive place. I must be dreaming. Or maybe this is heaven. Maybe it's a figment of my imagination. Whatever it is, it feels great. It smells exactly the same like home.
But it's not home, because I'm dead. Dead.
If I remember correctly, I came face to face with white double doors, this would be my room. I opened them carefully, slipping inside. It was dark, and cold. I flipped on the light. There were white sheets everywhere, it looked like it hadn't been lived in for days. I pulled the sheet on my bed away.
I knew it. My heart sank, how could I be so naive and hope, even for a second, that I wasn't dead? I may have powers but I'm not immortal. Speaking of powers, I opened my hand watching in delight as a fireball lit up. I flicked it into the hearth, watching the flame lick and latch onto the small log and coal. I stared at the bed. Back at home, my sheets were always pink, or blue, or white. I stared at the bold color. Blood red. I slid away from the bed that wasn't mine and pulled off another sheet.
A wardrobe? My old one was white. This one was black. I pulled it open. Like I thought, it was an empty shell. I stripped down into a vest and panties. It was definitely not my room. My room was not unused or dusty, nor was its theme red and black. I sighed, it didn't even smell like my cinnamon charm which I always hung next to the hearth. I sniffed my hair. It didn't smell like cinnamon either. I sighed. I am dead. There is nothing else.
I slipped between the sheets. Tomorrow, I will explore.

Willow's POV
...................
"Where were you? Why are you late? Damn Lux." I cursed at the maid.
"I'm sorry m'am. I was ordered to help find the Princess. But the Princess' ladies maid told me to straighten out her room since it was too sad for her to do it. And some of the sheets had fallen off so I had to lay them back on, and -"
"I got it," I snapped at her, "You don't need to give me five explanations." I sighed into my hands. "Is tomorrows dress ready yet?"
"Yes m'am." The maid replied, Rosalina, I think her name was, "But it's best not to try it on before the funeral."
I flopped onto my bed, "Of course." I scribbled onto a sheet of paper, "Give this to Sorrel. You're dismissed."
She nodded and left without turning her back. I sighed and buried myself under the covers. It was my fault she was dead. If I had believed her, she would still be alive. It was impossible not to get hurt when defending something that big, the size of a quarter of the Moon was pretty difficult to keep a force field over.
Celeste probably thought of me as a friend, she was so nice, naive, kind and generous, no wonder Daemien fell for her. I was so jealous. Even now, I feel so guilty about it - I'm still jealous of a dead person. I know Daemien's heart is sill with hers. It's upsetting and disappointing but, it's reality.
And it's because of reality, misunderstandings, my jealousy, my lack of trust in her - that she's dead.

Anne: First time comment?? Thanks! I haven't heard from you before but I'm glad you felt the emotion enough to want o write a comment! Thanx!
Omg. - 'Is this the ending?' - Woah girl! Getting a little ahead of yourself! We're almost there, but not yet. We need to find out who that evil, rat, body-snatching, Grim-reaper of a corpse thief is first! But thanx for commenting!
Mar: Haven't heard from you in a while! Thanks for reading! THanx!

Attention all Readers:
After Luna Latera, I'll be putting out another 'novel' in maybe December - late January. And it's up to you readers to decide which one comes out next!
Illegally Jasmin:
Jasmin is strong, feminine and dependable, yet empty inside. She may look like the typical high schooler, but Jaz's honeyed eyes have seen things no child should ever see and her heart bares the burden that no child should ever carry alone.
Ryan is arrogant and rich. A total womanizer. It may appear like he has no goal in life, however, his dream? To be a Professional Immigrant Exploiter, just like his parents. His sticky, sweet and luxurious love traps and snares immigrants, and he's slowly making his way to the top. His next target? Jaz.
To be Devine:
Nikki is your average transfer student, majoring in Art and Music in the Beezlbub Elite Academy, at least - that's what it looks like. What's her reason behind moving to a different state during the middle of the year? And what hides behind those piercing green eyes?
Regrets:
Arabella's rich. Her parents are loaded and she lives a life of luxury: she drives her own car, owns several houses and estates etc. And yet she's unhappy. On one fateful dinner meeting, her father announces she's engaged to her best friend Alex. Bella couldn't be any happier. But Alex is furious, he's already got a girlfriend.
He's already in love.
But, in a shocking twist of events, will Arabella expose his lover's true identity or will Alex forever regret leaving her behind?
Luna Latera (Possible sequel ideas...)
I won't tell you much about this one because you've not even finished the prequel yet. But if this is chosen it'll be out by March - June instead. I haven't even started it yet.
Anyway, please vote below for your favorite 'novel' or leave a comment if you would like to put a few other ideas into my head! Thanx!
