Lovers' Meeting
Nina and Blake are facing the biggest problem of their lives...Will they let it tear their love to shreds?
Not a sound crept through the house as Nina rose to get dressed. At every creak and groan of the old trees surrounding her house she would start, and spin in every direction to make sure that she was alone. She hated the dark.
Jumpy, but still sane, she went to the bathroom to dress, her hands shaking, but still usable. Splashing water on her face and grabbing her phone from the counter, she left the bathroom, seeking her hoodie.
Putting her black hair up on her head, she looked in the mirror. Her reflection seemed to flicker in the swinging overhead lighting. Her attic of a room was unique and comfortable. Her dark, almost black, eyes were unwavering, making the mirror seem to shiver at her intense gaze. High cheekbones and hollow cheeks made her dark skin seem paler. Her mouth was a thin line with barely any lip at all.
Nina didn’t think she was pretty, much less beautiful. Her features were not anything to be envied and her eyes always seemed big and scared. Why couldn’t she be like the models at her school that could wrap boys around their fingers and make even the strongest people shake in their shoes? Nina didn’t have a strong bone in her body or a will of stone.
Nina slipped out of her room and carefully stepped downstairs, being sure to avoid the spot on the wooden stairs that creaked, if her mother found her sneaking out of the house she would be skinned alive.
The trees creaked and groaned in the growing wind. Nothing would hush them. The spoke to each other at their will, not bothering to think that at this time of night people were usually sleeping.
Mist slipped through the forest, anxious to be away from the lake that sat in the back of the big Hanson mansion.
The fall air was cool and clean, making it easy to breathe as Blake knelt down by a big oak tree. In all of his seventeen years he had never been out in a forest at night with bare trees speaking mischief. He moved a mite to the right, rustling the leaves beneath his feet. His mind and heart were spinning. He couldn’t believe his life had taken the turns that it had. One day he was with Nina, happy and content, and now…
He saw the screen door of the old house open and close. Seeing a dark figure descend the porch steps, he flattened himself against the tree, not sure if it was Nina or not. If her mother had caught her, he was in for a whipping.
Slowly peeking around the tree, he checked if the figure was still there. No one. He felt his tall stature shudder, and then relax while he scanned the front yard. Nothing. This was scaring him.
‘Damn it,’ he said to himself. Turning around to put his back to the tree he stared into the pitch blackness amongst the trees. The clouds hanging in the already dark sky were giving him a foreboding feeling. The moisture he felt in the air told him that it was going to rain. ‘Great, just great…’ He muttered curses under his breath.
Sighing, he turned to look in the yard again, still nothing.
Before he had the chance to turn around a firm hand crept up his back and found his shoulder, bidding him to turn around…
