Lovely, Lovely, Lovely

It was love at first sight.

Well, for me it was.

We talked, we laughed…

We danced, we sang.

It was everything we could imagine.

We were both so happy.

Then on that beautiful day,

You spoke those three words to me.

The words that changed my life,

Though I’d never let you know it.

My heart was locked down,

Unable to trust at all…

And you said;

"I love you,

Do you love me back?"

"Well," I replied,

"I shouldn’t say something that,

I might regret later."

You looked at me solemnly,

Trying to act happy

I saw right through it…

"Ok dear."

And that was it…

Life went on with us together.

2 years…4 years…6 years…

My heart wouldn’t let me say it.

I didn’t believe you…

You don’t love me…

I think you still hoped,

I think you still waited,

I think you wanted so bad to hear it.

You looked at me in the car

It was an expecting glance.

I laughed it off.

It became a game to me.

I won’t say it!

I said that when you knocked on the door.

I laughed as I opened the door…

As if it was a joke and I said.

"I won’t say it."

But it wasn’t you…

I’d never see you again.

I stared down into the dark empty hole,

Where you would soon be,

And later when the dirt had covered you grave.

I lay down with you…

On the wet dirt,

And I whispered

"I love you."

I said those words as if it’d bring you back to life.

But nothing happened.

That’s when I sang.

Most of my words muffled by tears

"I believe…

What if I believe you now?

Forgive me, believe me,

Please come back to life…"
