Love, War and Peace - Chapter 3

Can the twins really improve this school?
3 - Black Eyes

Loud music blared out of the door to the assembly hall. It sounded pretty good actually; I nodded my head to the beat.

"Wow, they're good," I complimented.
Stella nodded her head slightly and then commented, "The booing crowd don't think so."

It was really hard to hear the music itself with the constant booing and threats that were thrown its way. I chose to ignore them but now that Stella pointed it out, it's hard to ignore them again.

Stella pushed opened the door and I could feel my mouth hanging open. Oh my...
The scary audiences were throwing scrunched up papers, broken rulers, squashed up cans at the poor victims on stage. The band tried to carry on, but one of the members got hit on the eye, by a ruler that's been snapped in half. Ouch...

That's when they had enough. The guy with the long messy hair, that covered his entire face, threw his guitar angrily on the floor and stomped away with his crew following behind him.

I expected the rest of the assembly to feel a little bit of shame and guilt, but they just burst with laughter thinking that this was all a joke.

A pink-faced woman entered the room and stood in front of everyone else on stage. Her eyes scanned the mess and she let out a heavy sigh.

"OK... Everyone, please be quiet!"
No one bothered to listen to her.
"I said, PLEASE BE QUIET!"

Everyone was too hyper to take notice of the short woman.
"QUIET!" She boomed onto the microphone. Her thick glasses nearly fell off.
I jumped a little, but no one else was affected. Someone threw a banana peel at her. Everyone sniggered then.

She clicked her tongue in frustration and removed the banana skin off her head.
"Right, we have two new girls. Make sure you make them feel welcomed!" She barked, rearranging her glasses.
"Oh, I will Miss." Said a guy in a creepy tone.

"I'll make them feel SPECIAL." Another guy roared.
"I'll give them the time of their lives!" Another one chipped in.
The entire assembly started to shout out more stuff. Stella shuddered and sarcastically said, "Oh yeah, they sure know how to welcome the new peeps."
I tried to show that I wasn't scared. But secretly I was terrified, I was actually thinking of turning back.

I felt something light stroke my neck. I peered at the beautiful jewelry that my Grandmother gave me for my thirteenth birthday. It was a gorgeous gold with the symbol peace stuck on it. I couldn't let her down, now. After all, this IS a challenge. Something I wanted to confront. And I will.

Bravely I entered the room with Stella by my side. We climbed up the stage steps and walked right to the center. Loud irritable whistles were thrown our way from guys while the girls already gave us venomous looks.

"HOT!"
"They totally dig me."
"Who the heck do they think they are?"
"Pfft. I hate newbies."
"We are gonna have fun..."
So much comments, enough to make you want to throw up. Stella glared at them. This encouraged the guys even more.
"Well, well, isn't she feisty?"

"Yo baby, no need to frown."
"I can cheer you up, babe. After school..."
I stared at each face, horrified and bewildered with their attitude. I'm glad I got here sooner. I can't wait to improve them...

My eyes paused discreetly at an angry body. His eyes were glued to the floor, but the way he was looking down... It's quite hard to explain. My heart was instantly breaking to see the strange guy like that. I guess it brings back memories of how I used to be like when my Grandmother passed away. I knew I had to help him more than the others. Everyone just seemed like the annoying bunch. He, however, was different. I need to help him and the angry band too.

My thoughts quickly vanished away when the strange guy looked at me. He wasn't afraid to hold that deep stare. His eyes... His dark, almost black, eyes... They appeared to be seeing right through me. I know it must be ridiculous to think this, but I really thought he could have read my mind...

"Ha-ha," Stella laughed humorlessly, "You guys are a funny-looking lot." She emphasized the word looking. I could easily tell she was satisfied when they scowled at her. She just laughed unpleasantly and said, "Yeah, yeah, whatever losers." Then she stuck her middle finger up.

The bell rang and the teacher chuckled a little. "Get to class everyone."
Everyone hissed and whispered to each other making rude comments about Stella and me. Nevertheless, they all eventually got up and left. The teacher turned to us and asked, "Do you know your way round?"

I nodded my head in acknowledgment. Stella rolled her eyes and said plainly, "It's a small school."
I think I heard the teacher mutter, "And rubbish," but I could have been dreaming.
"Come on," Stella tugged at me, "Let's get out of here."

My attention was focused on the stranger with the dark eyes. He had amazing shiny, black hair. I was surprised to still see him there. His piercing eyes, like a raven's, nearly having that hypnotizing effect. I felt my heart skip a beat just then.
What do you think of Stella?
She's an ok girl.
She's funny and cool!
She's horrible.
She's immature and selfish.
She's friendly and really nice.
A sarcastic girl with attitude.
A pleasant girl when she wants to be!
Don't have an opinion on her, yet.
