Love Lost

A poem about a love not recognized and realized too late…
In my blaze attitude
My love was hidden
From you and me

Now months later
The pangs of heart break
Haunt me

I’m lost in memories
That no longer hold
Any meaning for you

I try to recall my attitude
But I’m left only
With the drowning knowledge

I’ve lost you
And I don’t know why.

In my naïveté
My love was mistaken
For childish infatuation

Now when it’s too late
Wisdom arrives
To taunt me

Each memory brings
Fresh understanding
And the deepest sense of loss

I attempt to awaken
From this nightmare
But only seem to sink deeper into the quagmire of despair

I’ve lost you
And somehow lost myself as well.
