Love is Unexceptional - Chapters 13 and 14
Hey guys! Sorry for the long wait, but I was busy. I think you'll like these chapters though. But anyway Kisa and Steven finally get closer...
Chapter 13 - Confused
Our lips stayed locked together for a few seconds, but then I felt Steven part away. I looked up at him. He had some weird expression on his face that I couldn't quite read. It was like a mix between confused, and scared. I really wish I knew what he was thinking, but I didn't want to ask him. Instead I just said.
"What?"
"I umm..." Steven mumbled while walking a few steps back.
"Oh, let me guess... you don't like me? Well all you had to do was just say it!" I hissed at him.
"No, I do like you but-" Steven started, but I raised my hand to protest.
"But... you only like me as a friend, okay... I get it... I understand..." I said shakily. I felt tears form in my eyes, but I tried to hold them back. I didn't want him to see that I was hurt. Steven was also a jerk for leading me on to this point. But then again, I shouldn't be so surprised. I always fall for the ones I can't have. Well... excluding Erick, but I didn't really like him, so I guess he doesn't count anyway. I sat down back in my chair before Steven could say anything else. I didn't want to hear what he had to say anyway.
The rest of the concert was kind of awkward. I just sat in my chair facing away from Steven, listening to the bands songs. A few tears managed to leak out, which was probably ruining my mascara but I didn't care. Wow. I guess this wasn't the perfect night after all. Just my luck. For the rest of the concert, I didn't bother to turn around and look at Steven. He clearly wasn't worth my time anymore. I guess he was just another Erick...
When the concert was over, I grabbed my bag and hopped into the front seat of Steven's car without bothering to wait for him. I just wanted to get the night over with. A few seconds later he was opening the door to the driver's side of the car (I'm guessing he used his vampire speed). He pulled out of the parkway, and sped down the highway. He was driving a bit too fast, but I wasn't going to say anything. I didn't want to talk to him. 15 minutes later, Steven was in front of my house. I was getting out of the car, but I turned around to grab my bag. I tried to hide my face so Steven wouldn't see my mascara running, but I guess I failed. As I was turning around to walk to my door Steven stopped me.
"Um... what's wrong...?" Steven asked me.
"...Nothing." I lied.
"You sure... 'cuz your makeup is running... it was just fine before the concert..." Steven said unconvinced.
"I'm fine." I said snapped. Then I shut the car door and was about to walk to my door. But I felt something grab my arm. I gasped in shock, and turned around. I let out a sigh of relief. Thank gosh it was just Steven. But his creeping was starting to annoy me.
"What do you want!" I hissed at him. He jerked his head back a bit out of shock.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong." Steven demanded.
"I guess we'll be here all night then..." I said slyly.
"Why are you so stubborn!?" Steven said irritated. Good. I was glad he was getting annoyed.
"I'm not. I just don't always do what people tell me to." I said.
"That's pretty much just being disobedient." Steven said. I rolled my eyes, and placed my hands on my hips. I wanted him to notice how mad I was. What a jerk for leading me on like that.
"What is something I did...?" He suggested. Wow was he really asking me that right now?
"Oh really! You have to ask?" I said impatiently.
"I'm sorry Kisa! Just please tell me what I did wrong." Steven said desperately. I let out a deep breath.
"Well first of all you're such a jerk for leading me on like that! Second, I thought you actually cared about me but I guess you don't, and third, you just let me go on and kiss me, when you know very well you only like me as a friend!" I said angrily. I tried to stop tears from forming in my eyes, but I eventually gave up and let them flow out. Maybe he needed to see me in tears for him to have a change of heart.
Steven was staring at me in shock as I was having a mini-breakdown right in front of him. He probably thought I was a total loser. Which was probably more or less true.
"Kisa what the hell are you even talking about?" Steven said abruptly.
"I-"
"Why would you think that I DON'T care about you?" Said Steven, as he let go of my arm.
"Well, because... like I said before, you only-"
"No Kisa... see you have it all wrong."
"What-?" I asked confused.
"If you only had given me time to explain earlier, before lashing out on me." Steven hissed at me. Oh wow. So now he was mad at me for lashing out on him, when I should be the one mad at him-which I still was- for being a jerk? I seriously couldn't take his ignorance anymore.
"UGH! You seriously have the nerve to be mad at me right now? Wow to think you were actually a nice guy! If you weren't so strong I would slap you so hard that my tiny little hand would leave an imprint all over your beautiful little face!" I hissed at him.
"Kisa! Look I'm sorry, just calm down?!" Said Steven, practically on the urge of begging. I decided to listen to him, and I sucked in a deep breath.
"Fine, but give me a reason why I should." I said, halfway calmed down.
"Because, like I said earlier you comprehended everything the wrong way." Steven said.
"Wait... what do you mean by that exactly?" I asked confused.
And then Steven slowly leaned forward, and kissed me. His lips stayed pressed against mine, but then I gently pulled back. I could feel my cheeks turning red, but I ignored them. My mind was a whole mix of confusion, and emotions. "Why did he just kiss me?" I asked myself in my head.
"W-wha-" I started, but Steven cut me off.
"Remember when you said I didn't like you...?"
"Yea..." I murmured,
"Well I was trying to tell you that you were wrong, but you overreacted."
"Oh... I'm sorry, I just overreact a lot." I said sheepishly.
"I can tell." Steven said jokingly. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Well... I uh gotta get... home." I said. Steven nodded, kissed my forehead and then hopped into his car. I waved goodbye to him, and slowly opened my front door. My house was dimly lit, except for a few lamps on in my living room. Johnny was asleep on the couch, and I most certainly didn't want to wake HIM up. So, I slowly tried to tiptoe up the stairs to my room. I set my bag down on my desk. Everything today was just so confusing. But most importantly... did this mean me and Steven were official? I think so...

Chapter 14 - Together
So I guess I was right about earlier. Steven and I were officially together. Everyone just thought we were the cutest couple. Well, besides some jealous girls, and Ashley... who now that I think about it, didn't even know. I wanted to keep it that way.
Today, Steven, Emily, Maritsa, and I were hanging out over by an ice cream parlor. We all had ice cream. I had pumpkin, Emily had mint chocolate chip, Maritsa had strawberry, and Steven had regular vanilla. At first, Steven really didn't want to get any since it wasn't as appealing to him anymore. But I convinced him to get it anyway because Maritsa and Emily would think he was weird if he didn't get any (they still didn't know he was a vampire, and I wasn't sure if I should tell them).
Everyone else was happily licking their ice cream, while Steven was standing their awkwardly.
"Oh don't be such a downer Steven!" I said half-heatedly. He rolled his eyes.
"Yea, you look all awkward." Added Emily.
"I agree." Said Maritsa.
"Yea he's just awkward at times..." I said while laughing.
Steven rolled his eyes again. I was determined to make him smile. I handed my ice cream to Emily, and slowly crept behind Steven. I didn't know if it was possible to scare a vampire, but I was going to try anyway. As soon as I was a close enough distance to Steven, I launched myself onto his back, and wrapped my arms around his neck. I could tell I took him by surprise. He stumbled back a few steps, but then regained his grip on me.
"Goodness, Kisa you scared me!" Said Steven, between a few breaths. Great. Mission accomplished. I slid one of my hands down Steven's chest. I felt his heart thumping faster than usual.
"I can tell." I said while laughing. Steven smiled. I slid off of Steven's back, and onto the ground. He grabbed my hand, and I blushed. Then all four of us began continuing our afternoon walk, until we eventually reached Downtown Yorksville. There were tons of cars beeping, and honking in traffic. And of course there were a few occasional people yelling at other cars to move. But, if I were in that situation, I would probably be doing the same thing.
As we walked, we were silently window shopping. I noticed a cute pair of sneakers that I would probably come back for later. Soon, we walked by 'Mickeys' which was Emily's and Maritsa's favorite store. Once they went in there, it was nearly impossible to get them back out. I sadly learned this the hard way. When we stopped by the store, Emily turned around to face me with a hopeful look on her face. I immediately knew what she was asking. I sighed, and nodded my head. She replied to my gesture by cocking her head to the side. By that I knew she was asking "But you won't be mad if I leave you and Steven, will you?" I shook my head, and she grinned. Taking Maritsa by the arm, Emily dragged them both into the store. Steven and I continued walking.
"So now people communicate by exchanging in comprehensive gestures to each other?" Asked Steven.
"Well, we do. We just know each other well enough that we don't even have to use words to ask questions." I said.
"Women." Steven said sarcastically. I slapped him in the arm, and rolled my eyes.
"Hey... can I ask you a question...?" I said.
"Umm yea sure, what is it?" Said Steven.
"I just wanna know how old you are..." I said kind of scared. I didn't really know how he would respond to that question.
"17, why?" He said.
"How long have you been 17?" I asked. He snorted.
"About 4 months... Where are you going with this anyway?" He said annoyed.
"I just thought you would be older... you know... like years older... decades older..." I said the last part quietly. Steven sighed.
"No, I'm 17, and I will only be 17 once, I mean I'm going to age, but I won't ever fully age to the point that I look like I'm 50 years old, you watch too many movies." He said. I nodded. He was probably right. But it was also relieving to know that he would age, just like me, and not stay 17 forever.
"I wish I didn't have to age..." I mumbled.
"Well... that won't be for a while now." Steven said. I nodded, and stood on my tippy toes to kiss Steven (he was a whole lot taller than me). Everything was going perfect. Too bad I didn't know at first that Ashley had just seen me kiss him. And this time... she looked furious.
Our lips stayed locked together for a few seconds, but then I felt Steven part away. I looked up at him. He had some weird expression on his face that I couldn't quite read.
