Love in Denial: Chapter 16
Danni meets Jamie for dinner, and Jamie asks Danni to come home with him.
Hi all, I hope you enjoy this chapter let me know what you think.
He sat at the bar alone, he was reading a book which she found attractive, because only he would feel so secure in himself to read a book at a populated bar. "I hope I didn’t keep you waiting" she said as she came to stand beside him.
Jamie looked up from his book and swept his eyes over her appreciatively; openly admiring the black cocktail dress she had decided to wear. The action thrilled her because he had never looked at her like that before with admiration and hidden desire. "I was beginning to think you weren’t coming" he smiled slowly
She slipped into the chair beside his and looked at her watch "Its 7" she raised a bemused brow.
Jamie blushed "I guess I came early" he admitted "wanted to get a good seat"
"Yes it gets pretty crowded in here" she relieved his embarrassment "good thinking"
"What will you have?" Danni bit her lip as she surveyed the assortment of gleaming bottles behind the counter; the bartender hovered waiting for her request.
"I’ll have a whiskey" she said "with water on the side, please" she flashed the bartender a smile and before she knew it she had a drink in front of her
"Its on the house" he told her "compliments of management" he smiled before turning to another customer
"It must be great to not have to spend any of your millions" Jamie taunted
"Jealous" she mocked even though his statement had hurt
"Extremely" he murmured "I wanted to buy you a drink, now it looks like I’m competing with the bartender"
She looked at him out of the corner of her eye, he was rigid and he hadn’t touched his drink since she had arrived "what’s wrong Jamie, you don’t seem to be enjoying yourself"
"I’m not" he bit our hoarsely and she flinched "I’m nervous, my hands are sweaty, your perfume is making me drowsy, I can’t think of a single thing to say and I’m terrified that any minute now you’re going to realize how boring I am and drop me for any one of the men in this room because all of them can’t seem to keep their eyes off you" He looked miserable and she was thrilled.
She placed her hand over his and he stared down at it before he slowly pulled his hand away "you owe me nothing you know, I’m just the brother of the guy you still love"
"I don’t love Mike" Danni admitted, she brushed her bare knee against his leg and heard him inhale sharply "and I do owe you something, after all if you hadn’t bullied me into leaving Mike, I might be the one abandoned and with a baby" she took a sip of her drink and glanced around the bar, it was almost fill now.
"So you don’t regret anything" Jamie asked her
She looked back at him and frowned "some of it I regret" she looked down at her hands resting on the counter
"Such as" he prompted impatiently
"I would have liked to see you before you left, explain why I did it"
"I didn’t want to see you" Jamie told her earnestly "I wanted to get away and back home as soon as I could, the whole thing was such a mess and I wanted the calm and order of my life back"
"Your parents must have been happy with the outcome," she added
"Thrilled, but then Mike came home for the holidays and got Sylvia pregnant you can imagine that my parents weren’t so thrilled about that" he chuckled "I remember saying at the time that they would have been better off if he had married you"
"Yes that would have been better than some poor innocent girl being lead astray, I at least would have been able to handle Mike"
"And all his affairs, would you handled that as well?" There was an edge to his voice that made her uncomfortable.
"Of course, we would have come to some sort of arrangement" she teased but Jamie didn’t seem that impressed "I mean to say, that I…" she trailed off because she really didn’t know what to say to that. "Oh well" she sighed, "I wasn’t good enough to make an honest man out of him"
"No he was and still is an idiot, but he’s got to be the luckiest guy around"
"What makes you say that" she raised a questioning brow
"Oh because he had you" he replied instantly without hesitation "I will always envy him for that, if in some alternate universe where beautiful goddess like women dated boring lawyers like me, I would have made you happy"
"And what about in this universe?" she asked breathlessly
"In this universe, boring lawyers like me dream about the alternate universe every minute of every day" His mobile rang and looked relieved as he excused himself to take it outside.
Danni watched as he opened the glass doors that lead outside to the patio. She called for the bartender "could you tell the gentleman that I just went to the ladies" The bartender nodded and she quickly slipped out of her seat and made her way to the far end of the bar where the ladies room was located. She checked her reflection in mirror and tried to calm her nerves. Jamie hadn’t come outright and said it but he had implied that he liked her. At least she thought he had. She straightened and then went back out. His seat was empty and she couldn’t see him outside "He left" the bartender informed her
Danni tried to conceal her shock "did he say why" she asked bleakly. The bartender shook his head and smiled apologetically. Danni smiled meekly "thanks anyway" She left the bar and went back out into the foyer, and her heart skipped a beat as her eyes fell Jamie standing by the lifts, he had his back to her and he had his head bent as he read his book.
She marched up to him "That must have been some phone call, because I’m not used to getting stood up"
Jamie stiffened and then turned to face her, his eyes were narrowed as he surveyed her distastefully "I came back and you weren’t there" he pointed out
"I went to the ladies" she said exasperated
"How the hell was I supposed to know that" he threw back at her "I came back and you weren’t there so I guessed you got bored" he shrugged
"You keep saying that" she snapped irritated that they didn’t seem to be progressing
"Look, I’m tired. This was obviously a mistake we can’t even make it through one drink without something happening" He held out his hand for her to shake "It was good seeing you again Danni"
Danni ignored the hand and clasped his face and yanked his mouth down onto hers. She kissed him there openly in the foyer of the Park St James, she heard the elevator doors open and close again, she heard the distant buzz from the bar but she didn’t care because at last she was pressed against Jamie, showing him that she wanted him. When she finally released him he was red in the face.
"Spend the night with me" he took her hand and pulled her towards the elevator pressing the button and pulled her into the elevator when the doors opened. He looked at her from beneath lowered lashes; he looked incredibly sexy leaning against the wall. She followed him out of the elevator and down the carpeted hall. He stopped at a door and fished a key card out of his suit jacket. He closed the door after her and leaned against it watching as she wandered into the room. She turned towards him and loosened her hair running a hand through it.
"Do you want a drink?" Jamie asked suddenly his voice dry, she shook her head. He opened the mini bar and pulled a bottle of whiskey out. He opened the bottle and downed the contents. Danni sat on the edge of the bed and watched as he opened another bottle and drank that was well
"Relax" she soothed "This isn’t your first time right," she teased and he laughed as he came to stand in front of her. She raised heated eyes to his as he kneeled in front of her. He placed his hand on her knee and slowly brushed it across her skin moving higher along the inside of her thigh, Danni closed her eyes letting the sensation of his touch wash over her. He moved higher pushing her dress up to give him easy access and Danni moaned. He stopped and looked up at her "You are very beautiful" he whispered "why are you here Danni?"
She opened her eyes "because I want to be" she leaned forward and tried to kiss him but her pulled back "what is it?" she asked dismayed "don’t you want me?"
"I want you" he said simply "that’s not the problem, I’ve always wanted you but you, and you could have anyone you want. I find it hard to believe that you would want to give yourself to me"
"You mean what’s the catch?" she snapped humiliated by his assumption "didn’t you know it’s a new reality show, how many boring lawyers you can sleep with" she laughed to herself as she shifted off the bed but Jamie placed his hands on her shoulders "let me go"
"No" she struggled against his grip "Stop it" he ordered "I’m not letting you go, you’ve been in my dreams since I laid eyes on you, there’s no way in hell that you’re walking out that door"
Danni stilled and he took advantage of it placing all his weight on her and pushing her down onto the bed, his hands worked expertly to rid her off her clothes and before she knew it she was completely naked beneath him. His eyes glazed over with barely suppressed passion as he worked to rid himself of his clothes. He kissed her gently and then deepened the kiss.
"Are you okay" he asked, she nodded and then her entered her. They moved in perfect unison, pleasuring each other before finally collapsing back onto the bed. Danni wound herself round him completely amazed by their lovemaking "I didn’t know it could last so long" she told him
He laughed, "that’s because you’ve been dating boys" he kissed her forehead "of course we didn’t really get into the foreplay, I wanted you too badly"
"Hmm" she closed her eyes feeling tired but content
"Danni?" Jamie looked down at her "maybe you should come home with me" but she didn’t answer "because I have you in my blood now, and I don’t think I’m ever going to get over you" he whispered into her hair and then he pulled her closer and closed his eyes.
*****
Jamie yawned and sat up in bed, his eyes fell on Danni sitting on a chair, fully clothed "I have to leave" she told him. He nodded, he didn’t want to pry but he wanted to know where she had to be on a Saturday morning. "I have a breakfast appointment she told him so I really have to rush" she stood up, "what time do you leave?"
Jamie looked at his watch "At 12" he watched as she neatened her hair "where did you get the change of clothes from?" he noted the linen pants and shirt she was wearing.
"I had them delivered," she said flippantly as if this was something she had done all the time. The thought made Jamie feel slightly ill. "Too bad you’re leaving so early" she smiled "this was fun" she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek "if you’re ever in town again…" she didn’t finish her sentence as she made to leave but he caught her arm and yanked her down on top of him.
"I’m not one of your one night stands" he said rolling on top of her
"I know that" she glared up at him, "what am I supposed to do, you’re leaving. I normally do the leaving"
Jamie relaxed "ah so that’s the problem" she continued to glare up at him "do you even have a breakfast appointment whatever that is?"
"I might have exaggerated" she relented going red in the face "happy now?"
"More so by the minute" he rubbed his nose against hers "come home with me Danni" she kept quiet; he slipped his hand beneath her shirt and felt her stomach flatten against his touch
"And what would I do there?"
"Have a holiday"
"A holiday?" she was tempted
"Make love," he continued as he caressed her breasts
"And what about your parents" she asked breathlessly
"I’ll hide you" he joked, "they hardly come over anyway, I always visit them"
"I’ll think about it" she wound her arms around his neck "but I may need some convincing, like maybe you could give me a demo of this making love, so I know whether it will be worth my while"
He sat at the bar alone, he was reading a book which she found attractive, because only he would feel so secure in himself to read a book at a populated bar. "I hope I didn’t keep you waiting" she said as she came to stand beside him.
