Love Affairs (8)

I am so sorry for the wait. Everything has been happening so fast right now. This summer, I'll try to be better about this!
I was expecting a lecture. I was expecting to be yelled at, to be called irresponsible and childish.

I wasn't expecting to be swept up in a pair of strong, crushing arms and to be held there, suffocating for a full minute.

"Connor!" I gasped, in shock from his arrival.

"Julia... Julia, are you hurt? Are you okay? I've been looking all over for you, and when they said you were here-"

"Connor! I'm fine! Really... I'm fine."

"When you left, your parents were in a state of shock. They were screaming at each other, and then me for a while, and when they got back to themselves, I slipped out of the room."

I grinned, just a little.

"How did- actually, I don't want to know. You aren't supposed to be here. I am supposed to be gone, and you are supposed to be settling affairs with my parents, and I am in the process of hating you forever, and... and..."

I trailed off, not being able to find the words.

"Because you saw how great hating me went for you last time." He said, raising his eyebrows. He sounded serious, but I could see a hint of a smile threatening to get out.

I pursed my lips together and frowned.

"No, out." I pointed to the door.

"Very ladylike, your mother would be so proud."

I groaned in exasperation, trying with all my might not to roll my eyes, or God forbid, smile, at his weak attempt at humor.

"I... I trusted you, and right when... well, anyway, that's over now. So do me a favor and walk away."

"But you owe ME a favor! I took you to the fair, remember?"

"Stop being difficult! And I owe you no such thing! Stop acting childish and leave me ALONE."

I stomped my foot, along with pointing my finger, to make my request sound more like a command. I knew it didn't work when he walked right up and towered over me, effortlessly.

"Are you sure you want to kick me out?"

"God damned positive. Now out!" I let the tiny bit of ladylike training that had rubbed off on me abandon me.

"What if I say no?"

"Then I'll call for help."

"You wouldn't, you don't really want to see me go."

"Try me." I said, trying to look menacing while being a foot shorter.

"Is that an invitation?"

"Call it what you like, you're leaving either way." I crossed my arms for effect and wished that I had worn heels.

"Make me leave."

"Is that an invitation?" I mimicked him, making him smile.

"Call it what you like, I'm still not leaving."

"Why not? What difference does it make to you? My parents will give you whatever you want."

"Then I'm still taking you, because I have no use for their money."

"And I am useful?" I asked, somewhat puzzled.

"No." He said, bluntly.

"Then please escort yourself out! Why are you fighting with me?!"

"I figure we need some practice, since we're going to be doing it for a long time."

"No! I'm tired, and I don't want to fight all night."

"Then we can practice being nice to each other, we haven't had as much practice in that."

"No! You're leaving, and I am in the morning."

"Where to?"

"Does it matter? Away! That's all you need to know."

"But you can't leave!" He said, making it sound a little whiny.

"Too bad. There nothing you can do about it."

"If I told you a secret would you stay?"

"Depends. If the secret is that you have a tendency to act childish, I already know that one."

"No, the secret is about you."

"You don't know any of my secrets!" I gasped.

"I know you have big ears, that's a secret."

"That's not a secret! That has nothing to do with ANYTHING, either' none of this does! Leave, now."

"But I know a secret!"

"I do NOT have big-"

"I'm in love with you." He said, matter-of-factly, cutting me off.
=================================

I haven't been feeling the best, so that's why this chapter took so long to post. I've been watching movies (Billy Elliot, anyone?) and eating cookies, and I've gotten a lot better, so I'll starting posting more regularly now.

Another thing, I went from nine comments to four. I appreciate everything, but I am feeling bad enough already, it doesn't make it any better to know that nobody reads this story.

Gaby, Gabby Flores, and Yen - Thanks so much!

Claudia - Thanks! And I'll try on the next chapter to post a pic of Julia.
