Lost! In the Rain of Love - Chapter 9
An Othello spin off Set in seattle in a normal, everyday, highschool ... except it might be the future. A story of BJ and Kassedy (Jealousy and Drama are a definite!)
"WOOOOAH, Othello! YEEEEAHHHH, Othello" The chorus belted
The opening number had begun. I couldn't believe it was finally opening night we we're off to a great start, even though I wasn't in this number. Steel drums sounded and the piano accompanied them to produce an upbeat yet low and bluesy tune that would paint the scene of the play. Ian and Mike leapt crossed the stage while the girls of the chorus did the mash potato in the background. It looked very professional.
"Othellooooo, Othellooooo
Jealousy, Jealousy.
A Tangled web of lies, weaved."
The song was reaching the end but first of all there was the chorus, this was Tracey's time to shine. I couldn't help but be extremely jealous.
"We begin this scene in a field of wheat in Venice,". ("We begin this scene in a street in Venice,") The audience was silent as Tracey crooned.
"OOOOOOOAAAHHH" the chorus pitched in
"The villain Iago complains ter Rodrigo." She warbled
"AHHHHHHHH" the chorus echoed. Girls were spinning left, right and center. I sang along quietly under my breath cursing that Mr S hadn't allowed me this solo, apparently I needed this time to change into my costume.
"Iagoooo, Iagoooo.... the evil Iago" Tracey trailed off bowing as Ian shimmied on stage and the others scuttled away leaving Ian and the boy playing Rodrigo, Charles, alone.
The lights dimmed and the audience remained entranced by their performance.
Backstage I was searching for BJ, even though he didn't really need to be here he should have turned up to wish me luck (not that I needed it). He was nowhere to be seen... this wasn't like him at all but I had no time to worry as I was whisked away by the costume crew to get into my first outfit of the night.
My Desdemona costume consisted of a floor length velvet gown (obviously velvet) Deep tangerine in hue. I had a matching headpiece entwined in my silken brown locks. Everyone said I looked gorgeous and I felt it. MY makeup was minimal as everyone had agreed that I didn't need much (unlike Tracey who was caked in it). Just talc on my face to make me look pale and bright red lips. I went to Tracey to congratulate her on her solo and give her constructive criticism (what are best friends for?) and I stood around practicing my graceful look.
Ian's scene had finally finished and it was now onto mine. I floated onto the stage like a swan... at Christmas time. I spoke my lines perfectly, out the corner of my eye I saw Mr S give me a thumbs up... I was definitely the star of the show and I had only been on stage for 10 minutes. Tracey did this scene with me but she paled in comparison.
At long last it was time for Chad's big solo, He had recovered well from his tonsillitis and his voice was stronger than ever. Although, I hadn't heard him rehearse this number so I was very worried. He winked at me then took a deep breath in
Suddenly to doors to the hall burst open, stopping Chad in his tracks
BJ!
BJ cycled up the aisle ringing his bell as he went, he was furious although he did look nice in his fluorescent jacket and matching shoes which I brought for him last Christmas. Seattle at Christmas time... so beautiful. He had on underneath a black tank top and slightly higher than knee length shorts.
"I am gonna get you Chad, How could you do this to me!" BJ belted out.
A small girl in the chorus screamed but Chad was too shocked to respond.
