Lost in the Background

Just a poem I wrote.
I'm lost in the background,
Just part of the scenery,
No need to care for me.

Walking down the cold dark street,
Loneliness biting at me,
Like the cold biting at my nose.

I pull my ragged coat tighter,
Still the air grows colder,
Taking away all warmth inside.

I'm lost in the background,
Just part of the scenery,
So keep on walking past me.

Passed out on the street,
I knew what I had coming,
I don't need your pity.

Sitting on the cold dark street,
I watch the sunrise red,
A knife held in my hand.

I'm lost in the background,
Just part of the scenery,
So why are you looking at me?

Blood soaked and dying,
Shivering in this red dawn,
Finally I begin to feel numb.

Dying, I'm saved by you,
I wake in your arms,
In warmth I never knew.

I was lost in the background,
Just part of the scenery,
Now your eyes are all I see.
