Lost But Found - Chapter Six
Thanks sooo much for your patience!!
I walked into my house to find a pleasant surprise. My piano was sitting in its designated spot, the front parlor. It had a modern red couch on one wall, the piano in the middle, and a window looking out towards the driveway. The white really played off the red couch and red roses. I sat down and the seat felt like home. A rush of relief washed over my insides and I put my hands on the keys, which had been tuned before brought in here, and played songs that I had never even heard before.
I'm pretty sure I'm dreaming. I'm underwater looking for David and I see him. I reach out my hand but every time his hand touches mine, the waves push me back away for him. This went on for an hour. The waves kept pulling him back from my hand, but then the waves stopped, and David sunk towards the bottom to where I couldn't see. He kept floating down, down, down.....
"RRRRIIIIIIINNNNGGG!" I woke up startled. I had fallen asleep leaning against the piano. The phone was ringing loudly. I got up quickly and stumbled over to the phone.
"Hello?" I probably answered sleepily.
"Hello." The voice was deep, and scary. "Is this Laney Milano?"
"Yes sir. May I ask why you are calling?"
The person on the other end hung up without a word. The continuous dial tone in my ear made my head spin. Okkaay. Talk about a freakish phone call.
I walked up the stairs to find a note on my bed.
We went for a walk -mom,dad,katherine.
I decided I would go ahead and get in the shower. After I got out, I had a facebook inbox message. I clicked on it and gasped.
I know your brother. He is alive. David Milano, right? He wasn't kidnapped. It was organized. I'm sorry, but that's all I can say. -John Smith
My heart was beating really fast. I wonder if the same guy who called, sent this message. This person could be after me. What if he's trying to stalk me and possibly even hurt me? Oh my goodness, like who would actually use a name like John Smith? That's like using the name Bella Swan. Everyone knows its fake. I clicked on the name, but the page it went to said it was deactivated. I'm guessing the guy made a profile, sent me the message, and then deleted the profile.
I heard a knock at the front door and jumped. I walked quietly down the stairs, still paranoid from the two messages. I leaned over the stair railing to look through the window next to the door. It was just Anna. I pulled the large door open, and wind greeted my face. It was chilly.
"Hey Anna."
"Hey, um I was wondering if I could borrow some sugar."
I looked at her oddly. "Um, sugar?"
"Yeah, my mom was cooking and she needed some sugar. So I came to the first person who I thought would have it, you. And your house is closer than any other." She smiled. I guess in Kentucky, your just supposed to give people things if they come to your doorstep. That's kind of weird. It's almost like implied begging.
I invited her inside and went to get some sugar. I bent down next to the cabinets, opened the doors, and was surprised with a red piece of paper. I couldn't deal with another weird anything right now so I got the sugar and closed the cabinet doors.
"Here, thanks for coming by. I have been getting some unidentified calls lately, and they are freaking me out. I feel more safe when someone else is over here." I smiled. Anna smiled a completely fake smile and turned around headed for the door. She turned back around right as she was opening the door.
"You and Noah, um y'all ride home together right?" She asked. Her face almost looked scared.
"Yeah, my car isn't here yet, so he is taking me to school for now. It should be here, this week, though. My dad thought it needed some work done to it before he brought it here."
"Has he told you that he moved here last year, too?"
"Um, no. He didn't."
"I don't know where he came from, he never really told anyone. I'm pretty sure he came from Washington D.C. At least, those were the rumors."
"Thanks Anna, I'll see you in theater tomorrow, I guess."
"Great. I hope your ready for cheer tryouts. I'll see ya later."
I shut the door and ran to the cabniets. I picked up the red note. I was astounded.
CIA: 356-7844
Someone needed the CIA for some reason. They wouldn't have just written it down if they didn't need it for multiple times, much less leave it in the cabniet.
I heard the back door open.
"Laney?" I heard Katherine's voice over my thoughts.
"Hey, I'm in the kitchen." I turned towards the door and put the red note behind my back and stuck it in my pants. I hope this doesn't fall out.
"Where's Noah going?" Katherine walked into the kitchen and got the goldfish down from one of the cabinets.
"I don't know. He didn't tell me. What direction was he going?"
She lifted one eyebrow as she said, "He was headed out-of-town. Oh and hey, mom told me to tell you that your car is going to be here tomorrow."
"Finally." I rolled my eyes and picked up some goldfish.
"So, how was your first day at Downstream High?"
"It was fine. Oh, I tried out for this play."
"What play?" Katherine asked.
"Sleeping Beauty."
"Ooh, who tried out for the prince?"
"This guy named Zac."
"Nobody else?" She lifted her eyebrow again.
"Well, yeah. I can't remember all their names, though."
"Yeah, right. You just remember him because you liked him the best." She pointed a finger at me.
"Whatever. How was eighth grade?"
"It was fine." She blushed.
"Who do you like?"
"Okay, well his name is Brantley."
"Ooh, what does he look like." I drawled.
"He has brown hair, hazel eyes, and a muscular, but slender and tall body."
"Well, he sounds cute. Did you say anything to him?"
"Yeah, he came up and introduced himself to me. I just said "hey" and then told him my name. We have history and math together, and I sit next to him in history."
"That's good! He came up and introduced himself to you!"
"Yeah, he told me that if he could help at all to call him." I lifted both my eyebrows and made them wiggle.
"Let's go outside to the lake." I walked up the stairs to get some rubber boots.
"K, I'll meet ya' out there."
I put on my boots and walked outside to meet Katherine. Only to see Noah's truck parked at the airport.

Noah
I walked to my truck. Taking my dad to the airport is always awkward. He's not my real dad. He's my foster dad. My real dad lives in Washington State. I haven't seen him since I was twelve, or maybe eleven. My real dad works for the CIA. My mom died when she was giving birth to me, so when my dad went out on a 'mission', I would usually go with him, because I usually had no one to stay with me.
This time, I was on the beach distracting this girl while my dad got a little boy. The boy's dad had arranged for him to be in the CIA, and my real dad is a recruiter. The boy was going to grow up in CIA training. He was my age, maybe younger. After I was done distracting, I got in the water. I got stung by four stingrays and my dad sent me to the hospital. I can't really remember what happened, except that I woke up in the hospital with three guys dressed in black sitting on the couch next to the bed. My dad had sent me to the hospital. He wanted me to have a somewhat normal life, so after I got out of the hospital, I came here to live with a foster family. When I get out of college, I'll work for the CIA.
My foster dad goes to meet the CIA every two months. He sees my dad sometimes, but he's there to check on the guy that my real dad recruited when I went to the hospital. He trains there and will one day be my partner. His mom and two sister think he was kidnapped, when really, his dad arranged it. His name is David Milano.
