Blepharitis

Cosmetics

Demodex Folliculorum
This is a parasitic infestation of the eyelids which is caused by mites. Generally these mites are naturally present in pores of the skin and also on the hair follicles. But if too many mites get collected in one follicle, it can cause the loss of hair, specially the hair which are delicate like the hair of the eyelashes.
Trauma
If the eyelashes are damaged by constant and excessive rubbing or if they are plucked, they can cause loss of eye lashes. Excessive pulling out of the eyelashes is called TTM (Trichotillomania). Many times, TTM is an involuntary action.
Alopcia Areata
This is another medical condition, in which the immune system starts interfering with the hair follicles, which causes loss of eyelashes. Unlike, blepharitis, hair loss is also seen along with eyelash loss.
Drugs
The loss can also be a side-effect of certain drugs like anticoagulants, miotics, anti-cholesterol drugs, boric acid, valproic acid, bromocriptine, propranolol, etc., But generally, you would lose eyelashes only if you're on a long term treatment of these drugs.
Diet
Improper, imbalanced diet can cause eyelash loss, specially in children. Lack of nutrients effects, not only cause loss of eyebrows, but also hair loss. Hair first start thinning and then becomes frail and finally starts falling.
