Instructions for Loom Knitting

This pattern would turn out to be a hat or a beanie which can be worn on one's head to claim a fashion statement, or just wear it in a genuine sense. So let's see how the step-by-step approach comes around.

Thread the Loom
To start of with knitting the hat, tie a slip knot and tie the yarn around one side of the peg in the ring. Try to bring the yarn in between the first and last peg on the loom. Make sure the pegs on the ring are facing your right hand side. Once that's sure, bring the yarn behind the first peg and wrap it tightly to the front and back of the peg carefully. Now that the yarn is conveniently wrapped around the 1st peg, swiftly move the yarn to the 2nd peg and wrap it likewise. Notice you are working around the loom in clockwise direction and counterclockwise around the pegs. Remember this point carefully in the lessons of loom knitting, while you thread the yarn, do not pull it too tightly. You will simply wreck the tool or ruin the design somehow. In a similar fashion go around the loom threading the yarn and wrapping it number of times.

Working on the Loom
After the threading process is completed, use a safe and easy loom tool to pick up the first wrapped yarn around the peg 1. Bring that yarn over to the top of the remaining loop and also to the top of the peg. Once you finish working on peg 1 move to peg 2 and continue to loom knit in the same fashion. The moment you reach the last peg on the loom, unwrap the yarn that is holding the initial peg. After unwrapping that yarn, begin to wrap another row of loops on each 'n' every peg. Keep working in this manner for about 30 rows (for an adult's hat) and 25 rows (child's hat).

Finishing the Hat
Once you have finished the final 1st over the 2nd row knitting process, start working at the bottom yarn loop up over the loom peg. Make sure you leave just one loop on every peg. Pull out the working yarn from the holding peg and precisely measure a 3 foot tail. Cut it. Use that remaining tail to pull out the rest of the loops off the loom pegs. So to begin with thread that cut out tail onto the plastic craft needle and double the thickness of the tail. Start off with peg 1 and slowly remove the yarn off the loom peg to the needle. Carry on with this process until all the loops are carefully placed on the tail. The moment they all are there on the tail, turn the loom knitted hat inside out and gently cinch the hat to close it. The closing end must be stitched across neatly. The left out tail should be divided half and half, gently tie a knot and trim out all the edges. Your hat is ready to be worn now.

Well, just make sure whenever you undertake any project whether knitting or crocheting always keep a consideration of the wearer's choice and pattern. Like in this case of loom knitting a hat, every individual has their own way of wearing a hat. Some like it in a beanie fashion, some like having a lot of extra fabric around the brim of the hat. Perhaps many others like covering their ears, thus a ear-flap could be best and so on..

If you browse through the Internet in search for loom knitting directions and patterns, you may probably come across some long patterns like figure eight or zig-zag stitch, basic rectangle, double knitting on long loom and stuff like that. You may attempt such projects too but first master these steps.
