London - Seen it All? Think Again
Plan a Weekend give free tips on making the most of ciy breaks in the UK. This article examines London & the surrounding area, giving you ideas to enjoy a London break if you feel you've seen all London has to offer.
Many of us love a trip to London, planning our sightseeing, shopping and shows in our mind long before our trip. After a few trips, this may not be as easy as it was the first. time. Seen Buckingham Palace, Tower of London and Madame Tussauds? Browsed Oxford Street endless times? We aim to provide you with some alternative places to spend your London break.
The make up of your traveling party will go some way to determining where you want to go. Outer London offers some of the UK's best theme parks in the shape of Chessington World of Adventures(just 30 mins on a direct train from Waterloo), Thorpe Park and Legoland (25 mins). Chessington offers a full theme park, zoo and Sea Life Centre housing rays, seahorses, sharks and many varieties of fish. Adults can also enjoy the selection of roller-coasters and thrill rides. Legoland provides a LEGO model of many of the worlds most famous sites, accurately re-created with millions of pieces of LEGO, as well as a number of rides for the whole family.
Sports fans are also in for a real treat, particularly with the opportunity to take a guided tour around Wimbledon. Taking in Centre Court and Court No.1, Henman Hill, the press room and players entrance, their expert guides will tell you all about how it is a real members tennis club, along with some surprisingly low joining and membership fees!
Sports fans also have the opportunity to take a tour of Lords - just email enquiries@planaweekend.com, mention buzzle and we will send you a FREE voucher for 20% off this tour and London Zoo! If football is more your sport.
The royal city of Windsor is also well worth a visit. Dominated by the imposing castle in the heart of the city, there are some delightful shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the opportunity to take a guided tour by either bus or boat, taking in sights such as Eton, the Castle and the Racecourse. Time it right and you could take in a horse racing event, or even a Royal Visit - the Queen and Prince Charles recently hosted the Indian President for a state visit and Royal Banquet. At Plan a Weekend we have private tours of the castle on selected dates, as well as private tours of Buckingham Palace and Kew Gardens. Fans of Royal London can also visit the palaces in Kensington and Hampton Court.
Greenwich is another oft-overlooked option. Housing the Royal Observatory and the Maritime Museum, visitors have the chance to stand on the line that generates Greenwich Mean Time itself. Accessible by a picturesque boat trip along the Thames from Waterloo, Greenwich provides another excellent option to visit a part of London that may be undiscovered to your party.
For those of you who enjoy a West End show on a night-time, but feel they have seen all the ones they fancy, why not try The Comedy Store in Leicester Square. With a variety of well-known and up and coming comedians, this provides a night out with a difference. Alternatively, try the Royal Albert Hall or O2 Arena to see if one of your favourite operas, ballets or musicians are performing that night.
Many temporary exhibitions also take place in London - 2010 will see The Real Van Gogh and Turner and the Masters at the Royal Academy of the Arts and the Tate Britain.
And of course, the 'traditional' sightseeing activities are traditional for a reason. If you haven't seen the major sights yet or wish to re-explore them, then why not go back to Madame Tussauds, or see the Crown Jewels for the first time in the Tower.
