Loft Bed Ideas

Loft beds are a very effective way of integrating space management in small bedrooms. The following are some effective and useful loft bed ideas, which can be easily integrated in your own bedroom to make more space for yourself.
Loft Bed Ideas
Thinking about loft beds made me take a brief walk down the memory lane. My parents always insisted that all of us siblings should have the ability to share and hence the four of us (me, my elder brother and my elder and younger sisters) always shared the same room. We had three loft beds in our room. Me and my brother shared what we call the bunk bed. I always got the upper bunk, my brother being the bully. My sisters however had proper loft beds, each to themselves, with a small study desk attached. Well, theirs was like the kids loft bed. The loft beds are today no longer in use, as my elder brother and sister are now married and have separate rooms in the house. I certainly enjoyed using the loft beds, to the extent that sometimes I still miss my cozy upper bunk.

The concept of loft beds, probably developed after the sailors in the navy started using bunks, instead of hammocks. Well this is a general interpretation, though bunk beds may have been in use, well before that too. Today however, loft beds have become a necessity of the kid's bedroom.

Dual Bed or Simple Loft Bed
The most common of the loft bed ideas is the bunk bed. The bunk bed is a structure, that has two beds placed on top of one another. This type of bed is generally usable by two. However, some manufacturers have also come up with models that have three beds. Most of the other loft beds are basically the upgraded versions of the simple bunk bed. These are basically kids loft beds and are very easy to make. So, you can also include do it yourself loft bed ideas, rather than purchasing such beds, as they really do have very simple designs. With do it yourself loft bed ideas, you can choose to build loft bed with stairs, or anything else that you can think of.

Work Station Loft Bed
Work station loft bed is a type of two storied bed. However, the first story is basically a work station and the second story is the bed that's above the work station. The second story, i.e. the bed, is high up and enables an average sized person to use the work station. This type of bed can be used in any small sized room that has a reasonable and appropriate height. The work station loft bed ideas are often used in colleges and hostel dormitories. Sometimes, instead of a work station, a wardrobe or a small cupboard or a sofa, can also be placed underneath.

Floating Loft Bed
The floating type of loft bed is a very modern and highly sophisticated loft bead idea. The bed is attached to the ceiling, with very strong, thick, flexible and powerful, synthetic belts. When not in use, the belt is rolled up and the bed goes and touches the ceiling. This becomes possible due to the rollers attached to the ceiling, and are powered by a simple mechanism that can be operated with the help of electric motors. This type of bed has to be used carefully. The mechanism and fabric makes it very expensive.

Murphy Beds
Unlike the normal kids loft beds, the Murphy beds are one of the loft bed ideas, that has been in use for quite sometime. The Murphy bed is a simple bed that can be easily folded into the walls. Murphy beds help in saving a lot of space in cramped rooms. This type of bed works on a simple folding mechanism and is the cheapest of all loft bed ideas.

Before choosing a loft bed, it is advisable to formulate the budget. Then, assess the size and structure of the room. Also take into consideration the exact measurements of the room, before making any decision. You can also have custom made beds, where you can realize your own loft bed building plans.
