Living Alone Together - Chapter Twenty - Final
Two separate lives are lived side by side together, for as long as they both shall live. Promise.
Chapter Twenty.
The twins were so adorable, Aislinn thought. She looked over at William who doted happily with Alannah and voiced her thoughts.
"What if we were to have a pair of Jameses?"
William's eyes grew big, "Wow. Hmm... well... I don't know. That'd definitely be a challenge, but loads of fun. I wouldn't mind," he winked at Aislinn.
"Think it's too hasty to be thinking about things like this?"
"I don't. I enjoy it," he answered, giving her his heart-melting smile.
"Well, don't get too attached, because you're going home tonight. Alone."
"Right..."
Alannah gurgled in his arms.
"Hmmm... This little princess is craving attention. I can't believe how big they've gotten, when they were so tiny just a few months ago."
"When I first saw them, I was too scared to hold them. Makes me wonder how Lacey and Warren are doing away from their babies?"
"Ah, I'm sure they're fine. Some peace and quiet is all they need."
James came bounding into the room.
"Auntie, Henrietta wants to know if it's ok to take me and Pa to the park."
Henrietta was Pa's caregiver who came each day and kept Pa company. Of course, in her contract she had to deal with James too. Fortunate for them, Henrietta happily obliged to take the duo on.
"Of course. You all have fun, ok."
"We wiiiilll," he ran with excitement to tell the others.
"I've really got to convince Cara to set him with play-dates. All his playmates are like, 30 years older! I'm rounding up, of course."
William laughed. Would life be like this? Sitting side by side taking care of their kids. Discussing what next course of action to take. He looked over at his Dreamweaver with little Brandon.
"What dreams have you been weaving lately?" He asked.
"It's funny. Remember how I told you I had those dreams and you starred in them? Lately my recurring dreams stopped. I haven't had any in a while."
"Maybe it's because what you've been dreaming is attainable now."
"Possible."
"Believe it," he winked over at her.
Hiccup.
Giggle. Coo.
Hiccup.
Giggle.
"Oh! You... Are you hiccuping, Brandon?"
Hiccup, was Brandon's answer to Aislinn.
She cuddled the baby boy in her arms.
Looking over, she saw William put down a sleeping Alannah in the twin's playpen.
"This is the life, isn't it?" She sighed contentedly.
"Surely feels great, wish it were real," he answered.
"Be careful what you wish for," she grinned.
"Don't tease, Ace."
Walking over to where she sat on the sofa, he leaned over to play peekaboo with Brandon. His funny faces endeared her so much that she took the opportunity to steal a kiss on his cheek.
"You are so cute when you play with kids."
"I love your honesty," he grinned.
She laughed and swatted him gently on the cheek, "Be glad I can handle your vanity."
"Oh, I know you can handle more," he challenged, giving her many small pecks all over her face.
"Easy boy, we've got company."
He stopped and stared at the little boy.
"Hey Brandon... Take a hike."
"Uncle William!" Aislinn cooed.
She snuggled Brandon's face and he giggled some more.
"Uh oh!" Aislinn said, making a face and sniffed the air.
Holding up Brandon, she dangled the boy in his uncle's face and exclaimed, "Your turn!"
"Come on-"
"I did it last time. Get goin' Papa bear! Practice!"
"You'll pay for this," he warned as he walked off to the bedroom to get the baby clean and fresh.
"Right..." She scoffed before he left the room.
The doorbell rang, when Aislinn made the move to get it Alannah woke up and began crying. Instantly, she picked up the baby girl to comfort and walked to the door to answer it.
"Oh, sorry," said a somewhat familiar looking man, before turning around and walking away.
"Odd."
"Who was that?" William asked from the other room.
"I don't know. He looked familiar, but didn't say anything."
"Weird. So when is Cara coming home?" William asked, as she walked back into the living room where he sat with a sleepy Brandon on his lap.
"I don't know yet. You think two weeks is a long enough honeymoon?"
"Not nearly enough!"
"What!?! How long would you want your honeymoon to be?"
"Months... Years... Neverending..."
"Whoa. Sounds tiring," she rolling her eyes as she lay the sleeping Alannah back into the pen.
Brandon had fallen asleep too, and William lay the baby down as well.
"You know..." Aislinn began. "I didn't mention what happened in my last dream of you."
"Doesn't matter," he told her.
They stood in the middle of the living room, swaying to silence.
Slow dancing to nothing, they smiled and shared a sweet kiss.
When Aislinn opened her eyes from the kiss, a shiny diamond ring, quite like the one in her last dream with William, was there before her eyes.
"Ace, my Dreamweaver, will you marry me?"
"William... That's the ring in my dream," she turned away. Unable to believe the coincidence.
"You mean I proposed to you in your last dream?"
She nodded.
He encircled his arms around her from behind, and the tiny diamond ring dangled on his index finger.
He whispered, "how did that dream end?"
"I whispered 'yes'."
"And here, now, in reality. What will your answer be?"
"Yes!" She sobbed, turned in his arms and gave him a deep passionate kiss. He in turn slipped the ring on her finger.
"I love you, Ace."
"I love you, too Papa bear."
"Mmm... First time you called me anything but my name."
"That you know of..." She laughed.
He trapped her in his arms and she struggled to be freed, to no avail. He tickled and gave her tiny kisses. She shrieked a little when he nipped her ear. He hushed her too late.
Both babies awoke.
"Serves us right," he quipped.
He then turned to Aislinn who was watching him. His face turned mischievously happy.
"What?"
Sniff. Sniff.
Aislinn groaned.
"You're turn, Mama bear!" He exclaimed holding Alannah up to Aislinn.
As she was changing the diaper, the glare of the diamond caught her attention. She stood there staring at the symbol of a promising future.
She blushed and couldn't believe that all her dreams literally did come true in some way.
Alannah giggled with glee as Aislinn bounced her in the air on the way back to the living room.
When she stepped into the living room, she found William had set down a blanket on the floor for the four of them to lay on.
Life is great, she thought.
I wouldn't ask for more, he thought.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this novella. Hope you enjoyed it.
Please leave your comments if you have the time.
I was laughing earlier when I realized that half-way through this novella I had changed Cara's name to Cora! I'm choosing Cara over Cora. What do you think? Which should I stick to in my final copy. Please share your thoughts on that if you can.
Also, thanks Leera for pointing out the Trevor/Travis thing on one of the chapters!
Thanks Sarina18 for suggesting a topic like this. Secretary/Boss Relationship.
I tried to put a twist on the boss/secretary plot. Hope you all liked how it came through.
If you have any suggestions on the next story, I'll be willing to give it a try.
Please don't hesitate to point out inconsistencies in the near future. It really helps to have another eye proof the big inconsistencies like names. lol
