In United States, the presidency is the highest political office by influence and recognition, and the President of the United States of America is the head of state and of government according to the U.S. Constitution. He is also Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. armed forces. An Electoral College or the House of Representatives elect the President to a term of 4 years, the House being able to elect only if the college fails to do so. No person can be elected again after serving two terms according to the ratification of the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1951. The Vice President assumes office upon removal, resignation or death of the President.

George Washington (February 22,1732 - December 14,1799) was the first president of the United States of America. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 'for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people'. He is the only American president to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in such a short duration.
