Europe is one of the seven continents of the world. Europe is surrounded on the south by the Mediterranean Sea, on the north by the Arctic Ocean and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. It is separated from Asia by the Ural Mountains. Europe is the second smallest continent in terms of area and the third largest continent in terms of population. Russia is the largest European country, in terms of both, population and area; while Vatican City is the smallest European nation. This continent is the birthplace of the western culture.

Many of the European countries have joined together to form the European Union (EU). Switzerland, Norway and a few Balkan countries are not a part of European Union. The time zones of Europe are Eastern European Time, Central European Time and Western European Time. European Union has adopted Summer Time or the Daylight Saving Time. Most countries, including the ones that are not part of the European Union, also follow the date and time set by the EU. However, Belarus, Iceland, Svalbard & Jan Mayen do not follow the time zone set by the European Union.
