List of Different Languages

Language is the medium of communication between humans. There are thousands of languages, which are spoken in the world. When one has to talk about languages, there can be sign language, written language and the spoken language. Even the computer programs are written in different 'computer languages'. Animals also have their own language, which is used to communicate with one another. However, it is the human language which has a complex structure. There are different set of rules, which are used to relate different symbols to their meanings. In simple words, a language is a system of signs used for encoding and decoding information being relayed out.

Languages came into existence, when the Homo sapiens started cooperating with one another. Therefore, answering the question, which is the oldest language in the world is a rather difficult task. Eventually, the use of language became an important part of the human culture. It was not only used to communicate and share information with people around, but it also had many social and cultural uses. It came to be used for identifying a group, social grooming, entertainment, etc., among other things. As time passed, many languages evolved and diversified, when people started traveling from one part to another. Due to this fact, there are some languages which are spoken in different parts of the world but belong to one language family, as they have diversified from the same parent language. When one has to look at the list of languages spoken in the world today, most of the languages belong to the same family. This language family is known to most of us as the 'Indo-European' family. The languages that are a part of this family are languages like English, Spanish, Hindi, etc. Another language family which also has a number of people speaking the language all over the world is the 'Sino-Tibetan' language family. The languages that are a part of this family are Chinese, Cantonese, etc. The next family is the 'Semitic' languages family, of which a famous language is Arabic. 'Bantu' language family is another language family, the languages spoken in this family are the different languages spoken in Africa, like Swahili, etc.

List of Languages in the World

When we have to make a list of languages spoken in the world, we will have to make use of some criteria, with which we will group the languages. In this article, we will group the languages based on the name. The list has been arranged alphabetically, which will make it easier to find the languages.

If you are traveling to different destinations, then you may want to know, how does one say hello in different languages, welcome in different languages, along with how to say happy birthday in different languages. In the list of languages mentioned above I have not mentioned the extinct languages. At the same time, I have tried to give the list of all the languages, but I do not deny the possibility, that I have missed some languages.
