Liquid Makeup Stain Removal

Liquid makeup stains are pretty easy to remove, but you should know the trick of removing liquid makeup stains depending upon the surface. Here are a few tips for the same.
How often have you spilled nail paint on your precious carpet or ended up giving a make over to your dressing table while readying yourself? Well, makeup stains are pretty common and our carpets, clothing and dressing tables are the prime victims of makeup stains. Spilling occurs easily while applying liquid foundation, liquid eye liner or nail paint. However, you need not worry about getting these stains off the surface, as liquid makeup stains can be removed pretty quickly. The only thing you need to know is that the procedure of removing stain varies according to the nature of the stained surface.

Liquid Makeup Stain Removal

Non-Washable Fabrics
Carpet (synthetic or wool), fiberglass, rayon, silk, triacetate, wool, acetate are the surfaces that cannot be washed to remove the stains. Follow these steps to remove stains of liquid makeup.
  • Using a stiff bristled brush, scrape off the excess liquid makeup from the surface, onto a piece of paper. Take care not to spread it on the surface.
  • Gently dab a blotting paper on the surface to absorb the remainder of the liquid.
  • Use a dry-cleaning solvent like K2r Spot Lifter to loosen the staining material from the fabric.
  • Dampen a pad with dry spotter and also apply the dry spotter directly on the stain.
  • Press the dampened pad hard against the stain and change it every 5 minutes.
  • Repeat the process until you completely get rid of the stain from the fabric.
  • Flush the stain with water and allow it to dry.
Washable Fabrics
Washable fabrics include acrylic surfaces, or clothing made of fabrics such as nylon, olefin, polyester, spandex etc. Clothing is most prone to makeup stains. So, if you are wondering about how to remove liquid makeup from clothing, then let me tell you that a mere detergent wash may not get rid of the stain completely. Makeup stain removal from clothing is somewhat similar to stain removal from non washable fabrics. Follow these steps on how to get liquid makeup out of clothes.
  • Blot the excess of liquid makeup with a blotting paper.
  • Pour some dry cleaning solvent such as Afta Cleaning Fluid on damp cloth.
  • Tamp the damp cloth on the stain with light strokes.
  • Change the damp pad and continue the procedure using a fresh pad soaked in solvent.
  • Repeat the procedure until the stain vanishes.
Leather
Leather surfaces like sofa or shoes are also likely to get makeup stains. Stain removal steps are as follows.
  • Gently dab the excess liquid makeup using a piece of cloth.
  • Make a solution of mild soap in lukewarm water and swish it to form generous lather.
  • Use a piece of sponge to apply only foam on the stained area.
  • Wipe it dry with a piece of cloth.
  • Repeat the procedure, if there are traces of stain or if the area is still greasy.
Wood
It is not uncommon to give our dressing table a taste of whatever we are applying on our face. Hence, if you happen to accidentally spill your liquid makeup on your dressing table follow these steps to eliminate the liquid makeup stains.
  • Wipe the liquid with a cloth, without spreading it too much.
  • Mix some dish washing detergent in hot water and work large amount of lather.
  • Apply this foam on the stained area and then wipe it with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Polish the surface with wax, if required.
The most important thing about liquid makeup stain removal is that it needs to be removed as soon as possible (even if it means getting a few minutes late to the party!) The longer you let it stay, the difficult your task becomes. Also, apply liquid makeup with a lot of care, so that you won't have any stains to clean, in the first place!
