Liposuction Procedures

A liposuction procedure may involve the operation being carried out at a doctor's clinic or a surgery center; as an outpatient procedure. It may also include the procedure being taken up in a hospital, followed by an overnight stay; this arises in cases wherein, a large amount of fat is removed. Chances of a successful liposuction procedure heighten if the candidate has normal weight or slightly above-average weight; firm, healthy and elastic skin apart from having good overall health. A good candidate, along with such factors, must also have concentrated areas of fat or 'trouble areas' such as tummy, thighs, and buttocks which do not respond well to diet and exercise. Ultrasonic Liposuction (UAL) is a procedure which is usually an addition to tumescent liposuction. It is required in tumescent liposuction in cases wherein, patients require body contouring, upto a precise level. Before the fat is removed from a specific area, surgeons use high-pitched sound waves to liquefy the fat and this procedure is mainly used for areas such as the chin, neck, cheeks, knees, calves, and ankles. These areas, according to what doctors say, are a bit cumbersome to treat. UAL also has its own share of side-effects post-surgery. They may include burns, blistering, and scarring and seroma (a pocket of clear serous fluid that sometimes develops in the body after surgery).

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)
Although cannula is the primary medical instrument that is employed in liposuction procedures, sometimes it becomes ineffective in removing all unwanted fat. So to overcome such situations, surgeons opt for Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) in order to perform a precise and thorough fat removal. This is achieved through devices which are easier to maneuver and offer greater control, by breaking up fat by creating rapid and small vibrations. Pigmentation, loose, uneven, and wrinkled skin are the possible risks which may brim up post-surgery.

Smart Liposuction Procedures
Compared to other conventional liposuction procedures, one that is less invasive and inexpensive, is the smart liposuction procedure. It is also a new liposuction procedure wherein, patients undergoing this process, are treated with a local anesthesia; just to numb the 'to-be worked upon' area and not the whole body. Here, without the need of any kind of operation, a laser is used to melt down fat cells in specific areas. Later on, the body can flush them out through the natural process. Smart liposuction recovery period is faster than other procedures, apart from being a low-impact and cost-effective surgery with the least number of side-effects. Some people who have undergone this type of procedure, regard it as the best liposuction procedure, when it comes to cosmetic surgery.

Liposuction Procedure Cost
The cost that would be incurred by the patient depends widely on the type of liposuction procedure and the areas to be treated. Prices may also vary from surgeons practicing in urban, suburban or rural areas. Apart from the surgeon’s fees, anesthesia fees, and operating facility fees, other costs may include travel and additional accommodation expenses. In case of liposuction of men, the cost is higher than for women. This is due to the male anatomy which involves a larger body shape and thus, more time consuming procedures.

One of the benefits which people experience after any kind of liposuction procedures is that even if they gain weight, the treated areas are not affected. However, it is completely necessary to be aware of the fact that liposuction procedures should not be taken for granted to prevent the patient from gaining weight after the surgery.
