Liposuction first joined the market in the 1980s and has become quite popular since then. When it first came about, many people believed they wouldn’t have to exercise or watch their diet because with liposuction it would all be sucked out. Is that really true? Combine that with exercise and diet that have no side effects. The worse you might do exercising is a sprain or strain. You also reap long-term benefits with diet and exercise. Liposuction can also be long term but it has to include diet and exercise or you will probably find yourself right back where you began.

You should only consider liposuction if you have failed with diet and exercise alone to get your desired results. This is even more common for stubborn areas like your thighs, knees, abs or even your butt. So if you tried exercise and diet to reach your weight goal but still need help in a certain area of your body, then liposuction can help you permanently get rid of the fat and improve the area’s contour, but exercise and diet must still be insued.

Many healthy people are eligible for liposuction but it isn’t for everyone. If you are diabetic, have heart disease or any other medical problems you will have to tell your surgeon who can then decide if you are a good candidate for liposuction. Those who are overweight will not have the firm or tight elastic skin so they wouldn’t be recommended to undergo liposuction unless they incorporate a proper diet and exercise to help strengthen and tone to give better surgery results.

You will be asked by your surgeon to stop smoking in advance of your liposuction surgery. This is due to smokers having a slower healing rate than non-smokers because of the restricted blood flow in order to give you a chance at achieving the best results and a quick healing process. It is very common for surgeons to request them from liposuction patients.

You might also be admitted to a regular exercise program and proper diet anywhere from three up to six months. After this time you will need to go back for a re-evaluation to re-decipher if you are a good candidate for the surgery. This is for the reasoned mentioned earlier; liposuction focuses on trouble spots, so the closest you can get to your goal weight and the more toned you are, the more success you will gain from your surgery.

Liposuction’s name says it all. The meaning is the entering and sucking of your fat cells to remove them. There is no questioning if this works but it isn’t intended or designed to replace a healthier weight loss and maintenance by using regular exercise and a proper diet.
