Lily - Chapter 9
This is Lily's first Christmas with Rob.
Lily
Christmas Eve came and we had a tree up with presents under it. He let me go out and get him a present. He came with me but stayed out of the stores so it would be a surprise. This month I had no Sunday treat, he told me he was saving up to get me something I would really like for Christmas. I got him a new shirt and pants. I bought him a shaver so I could see his face with no hair. Maybe he would look less scary with less facial hair. When a lady would ask me where my parents are I would tell them my dad was outside the store and that I was getting a present for him. It made them less worried because I was still pretty young.
After shopping I went home and wrapped up his gifts and put them under the tree. I went back up to my room and wrote in my diary. Later that night I went to bed. I would lie in bed waiting to see if he would be coming in to punish me. He would usually come in around 11pm if he was going to. He started coming in more often this month, maybe because of the present he is giving me are worth a bigger punishment than normal. The next thing I knew my bedroom door was open and it startled my thoughts. He came into bed and said Mary Christmas. The squeaking began and like normal I put myself in a better place. I thought of Danny and Karrageen opening up their presents with me, my mommy and daddy there taking pictures. When it was over he left the room and I stared out the window looking at the stars. I finally fell asleep.

This Christmas was weird without Lily, A month ago we put up the tree but it was quiet. We tried putting on music and having cookies and egg nog like we do but it didn't feel right. She would always be there asking questions and singing to the songs. She would put the decorations on half the bottom of the tree because she couldn't reach. We would have to go back and put them higher when she went to bed so she wouldn't get hurt. She was such a big helper. Christmas shopping was pretty hard. We would see so many things that Lily would love but no one bought anything for her. This Christmas Eve we put the presents under the tree. One thing was different, there were none with Lily's name on it. Mom had the hardest time putting the tree up this year. She spent most of it outside on the patio with a drink in her hand. Every day now she would have a drink to ease her pain before bed and before work. She said it helped her sleep and it helped her concentrate so we let her. She was always such a happy fun and very funny mom, now she drags herself around the house and doesn't care what we do. She has her drink and sits down and doesn't move. She won't even get up to make dinner; she doesn't care if she doesn't eat. I haven't seen her smile since Lily left. It's as if her face just forgot how to. Nothing makes her happy or laughs. Dad tries to make her happy but nothing works. He will pick her up to dance and she will hold on to him but no emotion will escape her face. It's like her body and mind has just given up on life and happiness.
I ran up to my room and take out my photo album. It consists of many different pictures. It mostly has pictures of the 4 of us. I take out my favorite picture, the one where all 4 of us are laughing and playing with paint. Lily has it all in her hair and hands. My favorite picture of her is the one at her ballet recital where she is sitting on the floor teeing up her ballet shoes. She looked so beautiful as she concentrated, her hair was put back in a bun and she had a pink ballet dress on. I put one of her tapes in the player and watched her dance with her friends. She ran up to the camera with her hand out and a big smile on her face. She loved the camera and the camcorder. She loved to dance and perform in front of people. Her last recital was December 22nd it was for Christmas and right before she was taken. Mom doesn't let me watch that one. Sometimes when she is fast asleep I will go downstairs and watch it anyway. It helped me sleep at night if I watch one of her videos before I go to bed. I touch the TV scream and say goodnight my little princess.
Lily
Christmas morning I woke up to Rob standing above me. I screamed because he startled me.
"Do not do that to me" I told him
Sorry he said
The Christmas tree is ready and it's Christmas morning he said
"Oh OK I will be right down"
He left the room and I decided to get dressed and clean myself up. I went downstairs and sat by the tree. He asked me how to do this present thing. I told him to grab a present read the name on the tag and hand it to the person. He did that, the first one was for me. I took it and gave it a shake. I tried to guess what was inside the box. I opened it and there was a Barbie doll in a box. I thanked him and he opened a box. It had a nice sweater in it. We did this for a while until all the presents were opened. I went back to my room and put my new stuff away. I took out my new Barbie and started to play with her on my bed with my doll and cuddle bear. After I was done playing I went to the window and started writing in my diary. I said merry Christmas to Danny, Mike and Karrageen, mommy and daddy. Let them know through my diary and picture that I will never forget them.
