Lighten Hair with Lemon Juice
Though having light hair color has become a trend among young people, many do not realize that regular use of artificial colors can damage the hair. However, people do not know that lemon juice can lighten hair too. As this is a natural method, it is comparatively safer than using hair coloring products. This article talks about how lemon juice can change hair color along with its effects.

Process of Lightening Hair with Lemon Juice
Here, mixing water with the lemon juice is considered to be the best option. Squeeze juice out of two lemons in a bowl and add 1 quart of water into it. Apply it evenly on your entire hair and expose your hair to the sun. The acid in the lemon works with UV rays of the sun and fastens the process of lightening the color of the hair. Another method of applying lemon juice is by directly squeezing the lemons on the hair and distributing it evenly by combing the hair. If you just want to highlight certain strands of your hair, prepare the lemon juice and water solution, and store it in a spray bottle. By doing this, you will able to apply the lemon juice on the strands on which you want to have a lighter color. Some people suggest that instead of exposing your hair to the sun, you can also lighten hair by blow drying the hair after applying lemon juice. However, this is not an effective method, rather UV rays are the most important factor necessary to lighten hair. One thing that you have to remember is that lemon juice is not effective in hair that is already colored, i.e. if you have colored your hair with any hair color previously, you will not see any results.
Though lemon juice is a good way of lightening hair, it is said to be effective only on people who already have dishwater blonde hair and those who have light brown colored hair. If you have naturally blonde or light brown hair, and want to give it a bright yellow or golden color, you have to apply lemon juice mixed with honey and dried rhubarb and chamomile flowers. However, brunettes and people who have very dark color hair will not find the same effect by applying lemon juice. Nevertheless, if you still want to try it, you can apply concentrated lemon juice on strands of hair to gain unique orange colored strands. Read more on how to lighten hair naturally.
Duration of Hair Lightening Process
As lightening hair with lemon juice is a natural process, it actually takes a long time to lighten all the hair strands. The first time you apply lemon juice, you will only find a slight difference in your hair color, and hence you have to apply this everyday till all your hair becomes light in color. After you get the color you desire, you can apply lemon juice once in a while to maintain that color. As lemon juice is acidic, there are chances that the hair becomes dry and brittle after using lemon juice, especially in the case of dark haired people or brunettes. To avoid this, it is better to apply lemon juice on unwashed dirty or oily hair, because such hair contains natural oils which will prevent the hair from becoming too dry. It is also important to wash the hair with a good shampoo and conditioner after an hour of applying the lemon juice.
As there is a possibility that your hair may become very dry, see to it that you do not overuse lemon juice in the attempt to get lovely blonde hair.
