Letterman Apologizes to Wife, Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
As the David Letterman "sextortion" scandal unfolds, Dave has publicly apologized to his wife while the alleged blackmailer pleads not guilty.
After breaking the news on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show that he has had several sexual relationships with employees over the years, David Letterman brought his mea culpa act with him to Monday’s episode as well. Right out of the gate, Letterman was addressing the scandal, apologizing to his wife Regina Lasko and acknowledging that his on-air confession may not have been the best idea.
"Inadvertently, I just wasn't thinking ahead," Letterman said. "My thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I've gotten myself involved in." The women involved as Letterman’s alleged sexual partners have yet to surface, but it is obviously only a matter of time before they do and before they are plastered on the cover of every tabloid magazine in the country. Reports are that Jon and Kate Gosselin are eagerly looking forward to someone stealing their tabloid spotlight.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the story thus far is that the alleged blackmailer entered a plea of not guilty at arraignment. His attorney was quick to point out that there is far more to the story than what Letterman revealed during his brief confession on Thursday’s show. The FBI was involved in the case, so it is assumed that there is some pretty hard evidence against Robert Halderman, although the majority of the sordid details have yet to emerge. When they do, Dave will either be forced to address the issue every night, or awkwardly avoid it as the story heats up and he’s bound by legal proceedings to remain silent.
