Letterman Apologizes to Sarah Palin and Family, Almost

David Letterman addressed the uproar over comments he made about Sarah Palin and her daughter during their recent visit to New York.
Sarah Palin is accustomed to taking shots from late-night hosts and any media member who is looking for an easy laugh at her expense. But she's definitely not used to hearing offensive comments about her young daughters, especially when referencing sexual encounters involving her 14-year-old daughter Willow.

David Letterman's Top 10 List on Monday night included a line about A-Rod knocking up Sarah Palin's daughter during a Yankee game that the Palins attended while in New York. It's more than likely that Letterman's writers were referring to Bristol Palin - the 18-year old daughter that recently had a child of her own - and not Willow Palin, who was actually in attendance at the game.

Letterman made it clear that he doesn't condone anyone having sex with a 14-year-old girl and went on to add that he was simply trying to make people laugh. Of course, that's a fairly easy out for any comedian - just ask Jamie Foxx. The problem with it is that comedians tend to get into trouble when they keep trying to milk the same lame material.

How hard it is to make fun of Miley Cyrus if you're Jamie Foxx. She's a young, awkward girl that is in the media spotlight 24 hours a day. And how creative must Letterman's people be to make up lame jokes about A-Rod and Palin's daughters? Letterman's a great late-night host and a very funny guy, but sometimes the utter laziness of the entertainment industry comes back to bite it a little bit. Ultimately, the brouhaha will serve Letterman's ratings a little, but has to hurt his overall image a little as well.
