The Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet was created by a naturopath, Stanley Burroughs in 1941. It involves a diet plan including only lemon juice and maple syrup, while completely excluding solid foods. Detoxification of the body is the goal to be achieved by the lemonade fast. It has gained popularity recently as our very own celebrity Beyonce acknowledged following it.
The Lemonade Diet - The Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet
Solid foods are completely banned in this diet. Following this can be a Herculean task, but do not worry! Once you have planned for the diet, you can start minimizing your intake of solid food before beginning the actual diet. Start out with having light vegetarian snacks. Avoid consuming meat and junk food. By doing this, you will be mentally prepared to start the actual diet.
Having salt water in the morning, 8-10 glasses of lemonade during the day and herbal laxative tea at night will be your diet plan. Salt water can be prepared by mixing 2 teaspoons of sea salt in lukewarm water. Herbal tea is available in nearly all grocery stores.
Following is the recipe of lemonade:
- 2 tbsp of lemon juice
- 2 tbsp of maple syrup
- 1/10th tbsp of cayenne pepper
- 8 oz of purified water.

Many diseases stem from the toxins present in the body. Detoxification or the cleansing of our body is necessary to get rid of the toxins in our body. Lemonade fast helps in cleansing the digestive system, kidneys, as well as bowels. It relieves us from infections and gout. It will help to have clear skin, a healthy bloodstream and body. It also helps in building a stronger immune system and regain vitality. Lemonade fast curbs craving for junk food and also helps to reduce smoking and alcoholism. You will be particularly happy to know that lemonade fast is also efficient for weight loss.
Side Effects
In the earlier days, you may feel tired, weak, and also have the craving for foodstuffs like pizzas and hamburgers. You also tend to suffer from irritability, vomiting and nausea. You will also have to go the washroom frequently. To get used to these changes, it is recommended to start this Master Cleanse Diet on a weekend. It will help you to adjust better. It is a common concern as to how to sustain this diet for 10 days, being just on lemonade. After the Diet
You should not immediately start eating solid foodstuffs on completion of this diet. Begin with orange juice. Later you can have vegetable soup or broth, and gradually start eating solid foodstuffs. Some people continue having lemonade for breakfast even after completing this diet program.

Lemonade diet must be completely avoided by pregnant women. Malnourished, under weight people; besides, people suffering from kidney and liver diseases must avoid this diet plan. If you are following certain routine medications, you must consult your doctor before commencing a lemonade diet. You must remember that the Master Cleanse Lemonade diet is strictly for cleansing, and not as a diet plan for weight loss. Even though you lose weight with this diet, nearly half of the weight is regained on completion. Therefore, you must not overdo the diet. Also remember to have a break of 6 months before you repeat this diet.
Lemonade diet will be successful if it is followed strictly and in the right manner. You can try this lemonade fast once an year and it will definitely make you feel rejuvenated and revitalized!
