Three Strand Leather Braiding Instructions
Step 1: Choose a leather color you wish. Make sure it is thin enough to work out the leather braiding techniques comfortably.
Step 2: Decide the breadth of the leather to be braided. Now, cut the leather to the chosen breadth. The length should be carefully measured. If you take leather of 11 inches in length, it will shrink up to 8 inches after braiding. So considering this, take a few inches extra than the required length.
Step 3: Measure a length of 3 inches from the top side of the leather. Now, cut the leather in between to form 3 straps, leaving top 3 inches uncut. Make sure the three strips so formed are equal in width. The 3 inches of uncut leather at the top will keep the strips connected.
Step 4: You can color the straps. You can use colors depending upon the use of this braided leather. Also, you can use same color for each strap or use a different color for each one. This is the most creative part of the leather braiding techniques.
Step 5: Now, lay the leather in front of you in a vertical position.
Step 6: With the help of a pipe clamp, clinch the top of the leather strap.
Step 7: Hold the outer two strands of leather in your right hand and the middle strand in your left hand.
Step 8: Cross the middle strand below the left one. Now the strand which was previously on the left is in the center.
Step 9: Bring the right strand over the center strand of the leather.
Step 10: Repeat Step 8 and then repeat Step 9.
Step 11: Work your way down the piece of leather following Step 8 and Step 9 respectively.
Step 12: Once you come towards the end, make sure all the leather straps are nicely interlocked. For this, pull the leather straps tightly each time you move them above or below the other one. This will make the belt look fuller or else there will be holes between the belt.
Step 13: Hold the ends and knot them together. Your three strand braided leather is ready.
