Learning Style for Children
Teachers apply different learning styles for children in teaching process. It is a versatile task that teaching becomes a way of learning for them too. Here find some test to teach students at pre-primary and primary level.
Children cannot learn at once and teachers need to make study interesting so that playing and learning seems to be the same. Learning Style or test means learning in different ways by using preferable approaches to give new information to children. Many teachers apply methods of using pictures and stories in a natural way to attract children towards study.
Children’s mind is like "tabula rasa" that can receive everything the way you convey them. Some of them cannot get new concepts easily on the other hand few learn quickly without repetition of words. Students may face problems in listening, speaking, reading and writing (LSRW) skills of learning. Your teaching should include all types of methods provides a stimulus to the brain without burdening them.
Different learning style test for children:
Story telling: Teachers can teach through story telling by putting imaginary characters, real ideals in the history or can use students name to create more interest.
Diagnostic test: In diagnostic test the teacher knows about students’ linguistic, phonological and grammar by either taking a test or giving them a paragraph to read loudly in the class. Like in medicine, doctors report symptoms of patient to make a diagnosis, here teacher analyzes major weaknesses of their students. Teachers also use drills methods like repetition, and mugging up in the class.
Remedial teaching : One can go through Remedial teaching after completing diagnostic test. Here major defects of learning are detected and given an extra stroke of instruction between regular teachings. Students’ rare and ignored faults are noticed and given a polished look. For e.g the use of articles can be a part of remedial teaching if the students wrote words like – a sun (the sun), an university (a university), the John (John) etc.
Teaching through playing: Playing is a part of tactile learning process, as play becomes one of the mediums of learning, thus creating a social inclusive environment for learners. We have manipulative, block, sand and water plays to teach them develop their creativity. Role-playing is a psychotherapy method that generates live acting, establishment of situation, stopping and acting of characters ends. It gives a lot of fun and conveys morals to children.
Three General learning style activities:
Activities for auditory learner: Debate, tape-recording, oral-representation, puppet show, panel discussion and reciting songs or poems.
Activities for Visual Learner: Use of chart, map or diagram, reading and writing of books, video aids in form of C.D’s, D.VD’s, photography, movies and video camera.
Activities for Tactile-Kinesthetic Learner: Modern Learning needs more than traditional way of passive learning. Tactile activities are demonstrations, dance, different body games like rocking, field trip, modeling; musical performance etc. One can also learn through latest Internet and Online Programs supporting the child learn.
Parents interaction with teachers :
Both parents and teachers have to discuss occasionally to deal with issues like classmate’s bullying, teacher’s criticism, punishments etc. Parents being the first teachers need to talk about child’s physical, mental disabilities before hand. Some parents prefer home schooling or sometimes make availability of new techniques like playpen may spoil their adaptive nature early in the childhood. Therefore, real learning should be natural, easy and interesting that lasts forever in the minds of children.
