Learner Driver Car Insurance

Getting your first car insurance policy or learner driver insurance can be expensive. There is no way around it, you will have to look for the cheapest option.
There is no way around it, if you are a learner driver chances are you are going to pay a high premium for your car insurance than those who have been driving for a few years and have made no claims. The challenge is of course, how do I find cheaper learner driver insurance and is it possible for there to be big differences in quotes?

I use the word cheaper rather than the word cheap, it really does mean something totally different when it comes to count the amount of cash involved to buy the right premium, but insurance companies have recently adopted this term as it give the impression of cheap, without needing to apply it.

Some car insurance companies just do not want learner drivers on their books. It could be they want to offer the best possible prices to a less risky group of drivers, or they may not have sufficient funds to cover the unlikely event of having to pay out several high risk claims.

Others understand that the learner drivers of today are the low risk drivers of tomorrow and see a benefit of getting on to their books, knowing that most people renew future policies without shopping around due to their hectic lifestyles.

This does mean that there can be a huge difference to leaner driver quotes, depending on the business model of that insurance company. So how do find the right deal?
Well here is the time taking bit; you need to search for it. There are companies who advertise they specialise in learner driver insurance, but there is no research that suggests most are any cheaper or have better value that anyone else. If they are brokers they will be receiving a commission form the insurance company, a commission that you of course are paying. If you buy direct from an insurance company, then it is unlikely they are specialists and probably have polices for all drivers at all risk levels and ages.

Insurance comparison websites can help the search, but here is the rub. We assume all insurance companies will be on every site and this is just not true. In fact most websites only have about 20 insurance suppliers at one time, so make sure you know the website that has the most. There are a few that quote 97% of the insurance population is on their website. It is very possibly though, that the 3% that are not on the comparison websites do not pay any middle man commissions and could be companies that will offer the best learner driver insurance for you.

A solution could be to identify the companies that do not feature on a comparison site, and then after you have got your best quote, revisit each of these sites, to ensure you have a quote from 100% of the insurance community. This will take that extra bit of time, but could be the only way you know you have got the right or best deal form the market place at that time. The truth is though, the only good thing about buying your first leaner driver insurance policy, is that if you do not claim during the year, next years premium should be cheaper?
