Learn To Swim In 30 Minutes
Some people find swimming very difficult to learn and subsequently may drown if they fall into deep water accidentally. After many revisions a special swim stroke has been developed. It can be mastered by anybody of any race and any age (except infants aged 8 months or less) in a very short time.
LESSON 1 (Land drill - 5 minutes):
- Stand straight with your arms down by your side.
- Bend your wrists 45 degrees so that your palms are directed half way towards your thighs and half way towards the floor.
- MAINTAINING the 45-degree angle, turn your arms till your palms are facing out. Move your palms out by about 1½ feet. MAINTAINING the angle, turn your arms till your palms are facing in. Then move your palms back in. Keep repeating the palm-out palm-in movement. This is similar to "finger painting" the infinity sign with your finger tips on your right and on your left.
- Finger paint the infinity sign slowly for approximately 2 minutes.
- Finger paint really fast for another 2 minutes.
- Then, pretend to trample grapes for about 1 minute.
LESSON 2 ("Deep" water drill - 5 minutes):
- Go into the shallow end of the pool.
- Walk towards the deep end until the water reaches your shoulder tips.
- Finger paint the infinity sign for about 1 minute.
- Then, finger paint the infinity sign and trample grapes simultaneously for 4 minutes.
- You are now treading water.
LESSON 3 (Shallow water drill - 10 to 20 minutes):
- In shallow water, go to a spot 6 feet from one side of the pool. Walk parallel to the side towards the deep end until water reaches the mid point of your sternum.
- Stand with your back directed squarely towards the edge of the pool.
- Then, lean back by about 45 degrees and start finger painting and trampling until you reach the side of the pool. If your face gets submerged, trample harder.
- Repeat for 12 feet from the side.
- Repeat for 24 feet from the side or the whole length of the pool starting from the deep end.
- You have just mastered a back stroke.
- If you want to turn while doing this back stroke, finger paint harder on one side and gentler on the other.
I suggest this stroke be named "Scultra".
The main use of Scultra is to prevent drowning from accidental falls into deep water. Like the Dog Paddle, it is not a good swim stroke. When you have built up your confidence in the water, learn one of the common strokes.
However, before you decide on which stroke, sit on the floor with your legs in front of you. If you can plantar flex your ankles more than 45 degrees, learn the front crawl. If not, learn the breast stroke. Infants as young as 9 months can invent and stay afloat with a back stroke of their own (which is somewhat different from Scultra) in a few days, if they are encouraged to watch an older child or an adult doing the Scultra.
