Learn to Set Goals

Some advice on learning to set goals.
Learn to set goals

To set goals might be difficult for many people. I would normally tell people to create goals that you enjoy doing, and make you feel good when doing them.

The best way is to create something you want to do long term, creating a larger goal as your main goal, and most important thing to accomplish within a limited amount of time.

This goal again you try accomplish through tasks that needs to be done to accomplish the final goal. I would recommend learning about project management methodologies as PMI or PRINCE2 to learn about how to manage risks and reschedule tasks you are not able to complete in time. There are a lot of important lessons to learn from project management in order to create a realistic project, and how to manage it.

There will always be a need to reschedule to complete your goals, as there will be disturbance and impulsive actions all the time.

The most important is again; keeping it realistic and enjoyable. If you have a goal of being able to complete a 5k race you shouldn’t be foolish to aim for world record, but instead focus on reaching something possible. If you have no experience running, an acceptable goal would be to complete it without needing a break; next goal could be to improve your time by 5-10%.

To be able to complete a 5k you would start with 3-4 exercises each week, and having relevance to running, and the first week could be dedicated to walk/jogging till you are capable to run 5k without rest, next you start including harder tasks as interval running, hill running etc which would improve your speed.

As you can see; our project is to run 5k, on our list we would have running 3-4 days each week, and these will be goals for the day. If you for some reason can’t exercise you only reschedule to do next day, and sometimes you might learn you have to extend the dead line for the project because there are several days you couldn’t exercise. Also not that the first tasks are easy as you will mix jogging and walking, not struggling to be able run 5k right away.

Later you can easily learn to create goals for work, studies and other parts of life, and having goals as becoming more efficient, earn more money from being more efficient and so on.
