Learn to Play Piano First

Why learning the piano first makes learning other instruments easier.
Piano lessons are a great way to begin any musical journey! I will give a few reasons why.
  • Pianos (especially Keyboards) can be a very common household item.
  • Having to tune the Piano or Keyboard is generally never an issue…this can add extra time to the learning curve on other instruments.
  • Today, Keyboards seem to be the instrument of choice for arrangers, composers, and recording engineers (thanks to MIDI and amazing sampling rates and technologies).
  • The Piano is linear (horizontal) and is easily understood visually – in other words: the lowest notes (tones) are to the left and the highest notes (tones) are to the right.
  • Understanding music theory can be easier on the Piano or Keyboard – things like half steps and intervals.
  • Piano and Keyboard lessons are a great way to start building coordination between fingers on both hands.
  • Learning to read music (correlating notes read to notes played) is very logical on a Piano or Keyboard.
These are really basic reasons why piano lessons are a great way to start (or continue) musical training. The Digital Piano or Keyboard is a standard by which you can measure and expand any and all of your music ideas.

Pianos are an easier instrument to learn at first…but can be a bit more difficult later (when learning the different keys and patterns within keys). The Guitar may be a bit harder at first…but is designed to keep all keys and patterns within the keys equal…and this is very helpful!
