It is not a single state phenomena but it is spread throughout the US. We all know that cafeteria food is rarely better than a home cooked food. While the college canteen food taste is not always liked by any student, in the recent years, rumors have aired about quality and safety standards of food in colleges too. Now this is a serious question that needs an answer, because it is concerned with the health of many students.

What is the Truth Regarding Laxatives in College Foods?
The first few years in the college bring with them the risk of freshman 15. Believe me, there are numerous students who develop habits of eating junk food so badly that their lunch and dinner cycle remains incomplete if they don't consume pizzas and burgers. Nutritious diets are said a bye and unhealthy eating habits erode the digestive system. Moreover, they also contribute in increasing the body weight. That's why many students are worried about the freshman 15 even before they have entered the college premises. So how is freshman 15 related to laxatives? Well, I will explain you the connection.

Companies that are in charge of numerous college canteens all across the US have negated the comments of student community about the presence of laxatives in the college foods. On the contrary, numerous students have complained that they have faced many digestive problems after consuming cafeteria food. But companies providing food services have argued that it's the poor eating habits of students that results in poor digestive health. So did you get the link between freshman 15 and laxatives? Well, to make things simpler, firstly give a thought on your eating habits. Do you eat excessive fast food, gulp bottles of beer and live an unhealthy lifestyle? If yes, then may be this the reason behind your unhealthy digestive? If it is so, then you're just making an excuse by saying that there are laxative in campus food.

We must also know a bit about laxatives. Laxatives to lose weight have been popular for many years as a good weight loss option. But these laxatives also come with numerous side effects, one of which is diarrhea. Now many students have complained in colleges about problems of diarrhea. There is no sufficient data available that can conclusively say that a particular student got diarrhea due to consuming college food. Moreover, diarrhea is also a disease that can happen due to many factors.

So hope you're getting the truth behind laxatives in your college food. Students must also not forget that digestive problems can also be due to eating oily and spicy food, drinking less water, poor sleeping habits and stress. Mind you, stress can be a possible reason for digestive problems amongst students. If an individual is stressed, his or her digestive system may not perform efficiently. So this is the point I'm trying to state, if you're not living a healthy lifestyle, it doesn't makes much sense to put the blame on cafeteria or canteen food.

Students must also remember that a lot of effort goes in making canteen food, and strict safety guidelines are followed by the college administration to keep the quality of food hygienic. Let's assume that few poorly managed colleges are careless and don't provide healthy food, but can this be generalized for all colleges? Definitely not.

So we come to the conclusion that students should not overtly react to rumors of 'someone' adding 'something' into their food, and they themselves must follow a healthy diet. Even after following a healthy lifestyle, if students observe that their health is affected and they're suspicious that laxatives in college food is a possibility, then they must take the matter to the college principal. Instead of getting worried and reacting negatively, it is good to inform the teachers and respective authorities, so that they can investigate into the problem, if any.
