Laundry Detergent Recipe

These recipes are very simple and require basic ingredients like bar soap, washing soda, baking soda and borax, which can be procured easily.

Recipe #1

Ingredients

• A bar of grated Ivory soap
• Washing soda (1 cup)
• Hot water

Method

1. Put grated ivory soap in a saucepan and fill it with hot water, till the grated soap is covered.
2. Heat this at medium heat, all the wile stirring, till the ivory soap melts.
3. In a large pail, add the mixture from the saucepan along with an additional 2.5 gallons of hot water. Keep on stirring till it gets mixed properly.
4. To this mixture, add your cup of washing soda and continue to stir till it mixes fine.
5. Leave it to cool.

Recipe #2

Ingredients

• 1 bar of grated soap
• Baking soda (2 cups)
• Hot water (2 gallons)

Method

1. Put the grated soap in a saucepan and fill it with hot water, enough to cover the soap. Keep the gas on medium heat and stir it till all soap melts
2. Transfer this mixture from the saucepan to a pail, add 2 gallons of hot water to it, and keep stirring.
3. Add baking soda to this mixture, continue stirring.
4. Allow it to cool

Recipe #3

Ingredients

• Borax (½ cup)
• Hot water (5 gallons)
• Soap bar (1 piece)
• Washing soda (1 cup)

Method

1. First grate the whole soap bar and put in a saucepan. Cover it with hot water. Adjust the gas to medium low and keep stirring the mixture till the soap melts.
2. Add 5 gallons of hot water to a large pail. In this, transfer the mixture from your saucepan along with washing soda and borax. Keep on stirring till everything dissolves.
3. Add more hot water to the pail if required. Leave it aside to cool.

Recipe #4

Ingredients

• Grated bar soap (1 cup)
• Borax (¾ cup)
• Washing soda ( ¾ cup)
• Glycerin (2 tbsp)
• Hot water (2.5 gallons)

Method

1. Add the grated bar soap to a saucepan, cover it with water and keep stirring it till all soap melts.
2. Take a large pail and empty 2.5 gallons of hot water in it. Add glycerin, washing soda and the mixture from the saucepan to this.
3. Stir well till everything dissolves. Leave it to cool

Recipe (Powdered) #5

Ingredients

• Washing Soda (8 cups)
• Grated bar soap (8 cups)
• Borax (8 cups)
• Baking soda (8 cups)

MethodAll you need to do is to mix all the aforementioned ingredients properly, and store the mixture preferably in a sealed tub or box.

Ingredients

• Borax (1 cup)
• Finely grated bar soap (2 cups)
• Washing Soda (1 cup)

MethodLike in the previous recipe, you just need to thoroughly mix all ingredients, and store them in an airtight plastic or tin container.

Recipe (Powdered) #7

Ingredients

• Washing soda (1 cup)
• Liquid castle soap (¼ cup)
• Baking soda (1 cup)
• White vinegar (1 cup)

Method

1. Add liquid soap to a bowl. Then put washing and baking soda in it as well.
2. Add white vinegar to this, little at a time. You will notice the mixture in the bowl starting to foam up a little bit.
3. Keep stirring the mixture till the thick paste gets converted to powdered detergent.
4. Hard lumps, if any, can be broken down easily while stirring.
5. Store the mixture in an airtight container.

Ingredients

• Grated bar soap (2 cups)
• Washing soda (2 cups)
• Hot boiling water
• Borax (2 cups)

Method

1. Take a large saucepan, and add in it grated bar soap and hot water. Adjust the gas to medium heat and let soap melt. Stir the mixture.
2. Add the mixture from the sauce pan to a pail, which contains 2 gallons of hot water. Put borax and washing soda in the pail and keep steering it everything dissolves.
3. Leave it aside to cool down.
