Laser eye treatment is one of the latest treatments available, and is done with the help of laser technology. It has helped many people combat eye problems. Read on to know more on laser eye treatments.
Laser Eye Treatment
Laser eye treatment is a simple operation performed with the help of a laser, that includes a quick recovery period with less or no complications, and the aftereffects being immediate. There are no more overnight stays required at the hospital. It employs the latest technology that cures visual impairments like farsightedness, shortsightedness, and astigmia. After the treatment, one need not use spectacles or contact lenses as the vision is clearer than before. Most adults are allowed to undergo the treatment, but before the surgery, an eye surgeon needs to go through your records and previous treatments. You would also be required to take special tests to ensure that you don't have any medical problems and are fit to undergo the surgery. The treatment would, in some cases, be unsuitable, due to some medical complications. Children and teenagers are not allowed to undergo the surgery as their eyes are still developing, so their surgery could end up doing more harm than good.

As it is a simple and painless procedure, the patient is not sedated before the treatment and is awake during the surgery. Only the eye is numbed using anesthesia eye drops, after which the laser controlled by a computer is used to operate, which hardly lasts a few minutes. The laser beam changes the shape of the cornea. It is adjusted in such a way that light rays focus better on the retina which is located at the back of the eye. The recovery period after the treatment is short, in which the patient is temporarily blinded. However, some patients may retain their vision immediately after the operation. It is recommended to take some days off from work so your eyes can adjust to the change caused by surgery. However, some people may need to wear corrective eye-wear even after the treatment. The eye doctor should give you an idea of the treatment's effect, and the level of vision improvement.

There are many types of laser eye treatments, two of the major ones are given below.

PRK: This process includes reshaping the cornea by removing very tiny amounts of tissues, which is carried out using an ultraviolet laser beam. The success rate of this process depends on its ability to reduce the tissues down to a billionth of an inch.

LASIK: This procedure is considered complicated and requires a surgical knife along with a laser. This process starts by cutting the cornea in a circular path using the surgical knife. The exposed cornea is then treated with a low-powered laser, and the tissues are removed. Even though it is complicated, it is also the most beneficial treatment.

The laser eye operation may be expensive and may not suit your budget. Many optical surgeons have a variety of payment plans to offer. They give you an option of paying the fee in installments. Some may also give you the alternative to pay after a specific amount of time, like a year after the operation. A laser operation would certainly save your money that you would otherwise end up spending on a regular supply of contact lenses, periodical eye checks, or other services and products.

If your desire is to get rid of those spectacles or contact lenses forever, a one-time laser eye treatment is the best option. But for satisfactory results you need to ensure that you choose the correct treatment plan and a reputed doctor.
