Lance Armstrong Reveals More in Second Oprah Interview

Lance Armstrong’s second interview with Oprah Winfrey revealed much more about the troubled and disgraced cyclist.
Lance Armstrong’s first interview with Oprah Winfrey was one that fans and critics alike waited for anxiously. But the second part of that interview wasn’t mere fluff, as the disgraced cyclist opened up more about what he’s been through and what the real low point of the whole sordid affair has been. Armstrong, in that interview, described his "most humbling moment" as the one where he had to step down from the board of Livestrong, the non-profit organization he founded, ostensibly, to promote cancer awareness. Critics indicate that very little of the money from the foundation actually goes to cancer awareness, with none going to research. Quite a bit, however, goes into marketing, making it perhaps little more than part of the Armstrong marketing empire.

Nonetheless, are regardless of your take on that, Armstrong was closely tied to the organization and clearly it disturbed him to be stepping down. Armstrong noted that "that was the lowest point." Armstrong also wondered aloud if the banned substance he used to gain an edge and win (but not really) all his Tour de France titles may have contributed to his testicular cancer.

No doctor ever told Armstrong that there was a link, but it’s clear that it may have been involved. Armstrong also addressed the cancer survivors who looked up to him, noting, "I understand your anger, your sense of betrayal ... you supported me forever, through all of this, and you believed, and I lied to you – and I'm sorry." Armstrong notes that he’d like to compete again, and it seems that the apologies may, at least in theory, be tied to that notion, even though he insists there is no connection.
