Lake Hefner
Lake Hefner is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Oklahoma City, offering sailing, fishing, trekking, jogging, biking, golfing, picnicking, and other recreation opportunities. Lake Hefner is a manmade lake in northwest Oklahoma City, built in 1947. Measuring 2,500 acres in size and 29 feet in average depth, with the deepest point at 94 feet, the lake is known for hosting sailboat races on weekends from April to October. The Oklahoma City Boat Club is based here. For boats, Lake Hefner features docks as well as dry storage facilities.
The recreation opportunities are the chief attraction of the beautiful Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. The Lake Hefner trails extend for over 9 miles outlining the lake. These 12ft wide asphalt trails are great for biking, jogging and walking, while the 6ft wide trails on the east side of the lake are specifically created for pedestrians.
The next best thing you could do at Lake Hefner is make for the great playgrounds or enjoy a beautiful picnic with friends and family at one of the many picnic areas located all around the lake. For fishing, visitors are required to possess a city fishing permit. Fishing can be carried out from the covered piers, bank, or an enclosed heated fishing dock.
The Lake Hefner Golf Course located on the southwest side of the lake off Northwest Expressway consists of two courses - a 6,970-yard course and a 6,305-yard course. The facility features a driving range, putting green, golf shop, restaurant and rentals. The Stars and Stripes Park on the southeast side of Lake Hefner is home to various recreational events including the annual Turkey Trot Classic.
